From what I've looked up it seems potentially reasonable for weight loss but also potentially not reasonable for other reasons and it all depends on the way your own body functions. It certainly doesn't sound like the entire human race necessarily needs to drop what they're doing and pick this up though, especially if you're a child, elderly, or otherwise not a physically fit adult.

I think the weight loss portion of it is the worst justification. Calorie restriction of any kind does that. If youre not fasting for the other supposed benefits you should probably just eat healthier and less.
