He ended up paying the $750 in back electric bills but for a spell was illegally squatting in my home after the 60 days I generously gave him to find a new job and an apartment. Sadly they did their very best to make my time at home as uncomfortable as possible. It's a shame that they went that route, but I stuck to the high road.

I didn’t take it lying down. I prepped documents, police reports, fire reports, photos of the squalor they were living in, etc for the court and threatened them with eviction. Every day in the house with them was an endurance trial and an ongoing risk of fire. The threat of an eviction on their already abysmal credit score was sufficient to get them to leave on their own. I got tired of letting people walk all over me and broke the patterning of abusive contacts in my life.

They left piles of broken furniture, animal feces, and trash everywhere in the attic when they left. I'll be hiring a cleaning crew and billing him for the labor and for outstanding rent and utilities.

I’m now king of my castle for the first time with an entire tidy, quiet house to myself. I wasted not a second and cleaned up the sty they’d made of my home and have finally restored its neoclassical beauty.

Nightmare over. Looking forward to new beginnings.

This is what they left behind.
I'm actually surprised to hear that you were paid back the $750 they owed you. Based on your previous descriptions (and now the employee theft) I had them figured for a couple of smack junkies.
Good luck with your new direction.

All that mess but no beer cans and liquor bottles? Weird.

And the weird part was, they didn't even own pets!
Seriously, glad you got it sorted and got them out before they killed themselves and you with them. Did you need to have the place fumigated? I'm thinking you needed to get the place fumigated.

You know, that hardwood floor looks really boss if you just keep it swept up.

At least they left you tunes. Bet that POD album is sounding pretty good right about now isn't it?

DAMN! ISB, so sorry you're having to deal with all of this. I totally get how much your possessions mean to you. Wish I could help.

Slapped new strings on my bass today. (bad pun is bad), they were way overdue to be changed. Adjusted my bridge for tension, fixed the fret buzz issue I was having, action's a little higher than I'd like it to be, but I'll adjust. I can't get it much lower without the fret buzz. When to the public library, printed out 40 sheets of tabs for the tour (5 songs, about a half hour set) then tacked them on my wall after moving some stuff around in the room to make room for it. 164 thumbtacks later, and needless to say I have a tack-shaped blister on my thumb. Ran down, got my snake some food. That's about it. All I've gotta do now is adjust my pedal board, which will have to wait until my next day off because that will take HOURS.

Thanks for the support, everyone. I also learned today that he's been hanging with my abusive ex-wife (another lie that he told me he stopped talking to her.) I actually met him through her.

And apparently, he's been going around telling everyone that INNERSPACEBOY set the house fire due to a shoddy self-wiring job that caused a lightbulb to combust! He's telling everyone he's the victim here.

Tomorrow he's agreed to come over with a team and clean up his mess. We'll see how that goes. I plan to supervise. And we'll see if he pays the back rent and utilities he still owes.

And yes - I'll be changing the locks. It will be so, so good to be rid of him!

I'm still getting used to the incredible beautiful quiet of the house with them gone. And how immaculately spotless it is now that I've erased every trace of them (save for the attic). I'm on edge as if they'll burst into the room at any moment like usual.

It's seriously been a traumatic year. But hopefully, after tomorrow, I can put it all behind me.

Thanks again.
