If you have a drink problem then zero alcohol is the only option. Imagine dealing with a cocaine addiction by thinking instead of doing grams and grams every day you'll just have two lines when you get in from work. Where would that end up? |

My dad once told me that he'd cut back on the alcohol. He was drinking at the time to relieve otherworldly crazy stress from work, my mother, and my brother. I believed him.
A week later I was (literally) kicking him out of my front door because he called my mother a cunt. I kicked him right in the chest and he fell backwards on his back. He was in shock. His face went from anger to just sheer disgust, either in me or himself, I'm still not sure. He staggered back to his feet and then left in his truck. Up until that point my father was my superhero. He was a firefighter AND police officer...at the same time. He could say no wrong or do no wrong and was my role model. Calling my mother a cunt changes that though. Those days are over. I cried a lot that night. My image of my father was shattered. All because he thought he could handle the booze and control it. That was last March. He's going to be a year sober this Sunday. I'm starting to see my superhero again. You and my father are a lot alike Chula. I've told you that before. Quit the booze. Your family needs you to do it because I can guarantee after this last episode, they see you differently now. Quit the booze and change your life. |

Good post Exo.
IMO you probably need to have that moment where you realise it simply cannot continue and it sounds like that happened for him. One year is a long time so well done to him. |

That’s great your dad sobered up.
I’m not trying to make small of him talking to your mom like that but if that was his rock bottom and he sobered up after just that... you’re so lucky man I’m not going to start boohooing my home environment but... **** it, it was bad, like pretty much all the time and no reform ever I feel like I had it hard, but when I was a teacher I had lots of students whose homelife made my childhood seem like a picnic Your dad nipped it in the bud. Everyone is human but to correct himself like that... You should tell him how much you appreciate and respect that. That’s being a man, I’m not even joking, I’m jealous as ****.

Jeez, ketchup, will ya? He means booze. You're the Worcester is. (Sorry; you need to know the English pronunciation of that one to get it. It's worst-er)...

Gotta drive back to Chula Vista tomorrow to meet with the guys selling my house and a notary to sign some docs. Also need to set up my bank info with them so the funds can be wired over as soon as we close.
Just really glad we sold when we did. Trump is hell bent on trashing the economy, which of course really hurts home values. Was also reading that the BS he's pulling with Amazon, which is hurting their stock value, has the potential to mess with millions and millions of people's 401Ks. Ten or so of the largest shareholders in Amazon are massive financial institutions that manage retirement funds as a huge portion of their business. Where's JWB when you need him.....

Don't read CNN's economic reporting, they're sloppy as ****. Luckily your place is in San Diego where home prices have been skyrocketing. We need our home values straight up murdered.
