So if the police are truly involved in an open case of a violent stalker not only would my friend's wife would have talked to a police officer, which she hasn't, they should have been given a copy of the police report by now. He obviously hasn't because that would have shut me up right off the bat. I personally remember getting one when I was assaulted and robbed with a case number and the detective's number. If he hasn't gotten a copy, which he should have, he has the right to demand a copy even during an open case. After the case is closed the police report becomes public record, meaning that anybody can get a copy for a fee.

I don't know what to do from here. I feel I've confirmed it's bull**** and it's ****ed up that he'd toy with everybody's emotions. I don't think I could be his friend after all the manipulative bull**** he's tried to pull. Should I tell his wife to demand a copy though? If she finds a shred of evidence that he lied their marriage is threw. He told me she'd kill herself if she thought he'd lied. I don't know how much truth is to that, or if he's being manipulative and trying to get me to quit saying it's a lie. And as upset as I'd be to see their marriage destroyed by this, it'd haunt me forever to know she commit suicide over it. But I feel like she deserved to know, because this is ****ed up. Like, she already deals with really bad anxiety and depression and this looming threat is devastating to her. Possibly traumatizing. This situation is ****ed and it makes me emotionally sick and I don't know what to do about it.

This is NOT your problem, and you've already done, or tried to do, all you could to sort it. It's now their problem. If he lied, HE lied, not you. If you step in between them they'll probably close ranks and attack you, and nothing good will come of it. It's up to you whether you want to dump him as a friend (I would) but don't get any further involved. It'll just go pear-shaped. You don't want to be responsible for anything that might happen, and if something happens afterwards, without you saying anything, that's not your fault. If he's too chicken**** to admit to her he lied, that's his problem and they have to deal with it. I'm sure you have enough problems of your own without taking on those of a shaky marriage with borderline psychosis involved.

Just step back. Let them deal. The door's that way. Use it. And don't look back.

They've already gone on attack. I'll take this advice if proven I'm right, which sucks because that means I have to cut out most of my friends to avoid him.

This is why you let married couple problems stay between married couples. Yes it's ass to let **** like this slide, but it never works out for you to get involved. And can you honestly say that all these friends who freely associate with this couple are worth talking to? Hell, you do and you're probably not worth talking to either.
