I wouldn't give any warnings or let them know I'm on to them, for all I know it could encourage them to get the job done quicker if they think people are closing in.

He needs to be arrested ASAP. Something like this must be awful if you're on the receiving end and I would be raging if the police were slow to act over it.

Yes this. You don't corner someone who is armed and clearly unstable.

Be proactive and within the limits of the law. You don't want a battery charge (or worse) hanging over your head for the rest of your life.
