I'm in the latter. But I'd be competing with all of the former. That's part of my point.

We also have a generation of listeners who are perfectly fine with super compressed audio and who have probably not even listened to a remastered CD, yet alone, a vinyl album.

Not directed at anyone on MB - just a vast majority of the buying public.

To be honest, being an audiophile is something that grows on you. When you're young, the fact that you can have music available on demand is really the biggest thrill, no matter the quality.

But as an informed adult, there is no reason to listen to compressed audio files.

Gotta be rough when you're pushing guitar solos over loop pedal drum presets too.

It's the best and worst time to be an artist. If it doesn't get clamped down on (I think it will in the next decade), big data could help resolve some of the negative aspects that come with a flattened playing field by helping artists get on their niche's radar.

All that and an acoustic guitar.

How is 4 guys writing all of the music, all of the lyrics, playing all of the instruments, singing the songs, engineering and producing the results, dictating and helping design the packaging, and then touring to promote the album, not DIY?

I know, I know, what "yourself" means, but IMO it can also apply to a band of 4 guys. Frownland opines in 5... 4... 3... 2...

Studio funding, obviously.

inb4 Chula thinks that I'm implying that Led Zeppelin sucks.

Nope. Back then band's paid for it on their own dime.

In a 1990 interview, Page said that LZ1 took only about 36 hours of studio time (over a span of a few weeks) to create (including mixing), adding that he knew this because of the amount charged on the studio bill. ($2,372)
