Do you have an example of a good album that's marred by a less rough production approach or is this just a truism?

Nope. Back then band's paid for it on their own dime.

Fun trivia fact. The Beatles first album is the only one estimated to have a higher return on investment than LZ1.

Beatles1: Cost $1,500 - 1,000,000 units sold. (1964 dollars)

LZ1: Cost $2,372 - 8,000,000 units sold. (1969 dollars)

So you're arguing just for the sake of arguing, my point still stands.

And careerism isn't what's disgusting, it's rules that are disgusting. You try to put just as many bars on art as anybody else.

Eagles' Greatest Hits cost zero dollars to record and is one of the highest grossing records of all time!

Then he'd be wrong. Kanye blew up before anybody knew his personality and already had a lucrative career as a producer prior. He's very talented. In fact, his fame is usually despite his personality.
