Not my fave TBH, even though like all FZ it definitely has strong moments. I'm not really a big fan of FZ's solos, to me he tends to noodle too much. FZ's greatness IMO is as a composer/bandleader/recording producer and engineer, plus his inimitable vocal style.

It's really hard to pick a favorite from his vast catalog, but if I had to pick one it would possibly be One Size Fits All or Roxy And Elsewhere.

Is Pink Napkins on Shut Up and Play Your Guitar basically the same song?

A little. Different tempo and a completely different improvised solo. But, in a basic way, ya.

It finally happened.

After 20 years in Japan, someone jumped in front of my train today just as it was pulling into the station and I was going to board it.

It was bound to happen. Had to walk a long way home tonight.

That's horrible. I hope you didn't actually witness it.

What do you mean, it had to happen? Does this sort of thing happen regularly in Japan? I thought people only jumped/got pushed in front of trains in Cold War spy novels.

A friend of mine was killed by a train while walking home a few years back. He left his brothers place to walk his dog at his own home down the street late at night, and he took the rail road tracks that passes by both places. He never saw it coming. His brother was so distraught, he ended up drinking himself to death and died almost exactly a year later from liver failure. The Father didn't last long after all that either.

I still see the son of the brother who drank himself to death once in a while. He's doing surprisingly well for what he had to go through. Tough kid.

Live for today.

Every day.

I'm surprised it took so long for me to finally randomly witness one.
