Sorry to hear you're going through hard times. I hope you things work out for you.

I'm sorry to hear about all the financial and legal stress, Chula, and of course the health scares. That sounds grim. I always suggest exercise for people who are stressed out; it doesn't fix any probs, but it's free, and perhaps the endophines can help you relax a little.

From leaving school to retiring is a much more treacherous road than we were given to believe back in the '70s. I'm making it to the finishing line, but only just, with hourly-paid work and no benefits. Recently, I was doing a stint in the open-plan regional headquarters of a major international bank, and I noticed there was no-one there under about 45 yrs old -not a grey hair in the place. It was corporate policy; find some way to lose any employee approaching fifty. The staff told me that a typical tactic was the forced transfer; either you take this post in Siberia, or you leave the company. Businesses are just heartless these days.

Well, Take it easy if you can,
Lisna

Really sorry to hear that, Chula. Have you thought about starting a side hustle? You can make a decent living self-employed.

Thanks, Chula; I'm getting by because I've rented my apartment in England - can't afford to live in it, but at least I managed to hold on to it.
I might be reaching out when a serious health problem hits - so be warned!!

OK, so the writing has been on the wall for a while now. I really wouldn't worry too much about the lack of schooling right now (a future GED would be nice tho), because some people can get into good positions solely on enthusiasm and, as you say, "experience and reputation." So: perfect! Put those qualities to good use! I'm guessing that during all of the years that you were working at full (or nearly full) capacity, that you must've become friends or strongly acquainted with people tangentially attached to your work - maybe a man or woman in distribution or a friend/family member of a client, etc. - someone that you developed a strong bond with that recognised a specific talent you had. I'd start looking in that direction right away for possible job opportunities. Yeah, it's "networking" in some ways - and awfully "old-school", but you're an "old-school" guy anyway and, yes, age plays a factor somewhat. Also, I don't know how good your trade skills are (can you, for instance, repair guitars?), but there are all kinds of less stressful outlets where you don't have to rely on corporate Amerikkka to get along in the world. Literally, write down what your good qualities are - or if you decide to run a business out of your home, write down what Linda's qualities are as well. Are either of you good at distribution or being organized or good at accounting to keep track of the books, etc.? Based on what you've been telling us, the window for this isn't necessarily closing up, but rather, it's moving farther away as the world keeps adding an addition to that decaying room that you're in.

Anybody graduating college at 19 is no threat to anybody. Either that or I should marry them.
