I spend most of my days staying inside doing nothing.

An absolutely brilliant day spent with an old friend from college!

He drove out to my city, we strolled the town, made plans for cycling ventures, and enjoyed stimulating discussions about Cinéma vérité, Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier, Elias Merhige, German silver screen actor Max Schreck, critical considerations of the Christoper Nolan filmography, tropes of modern cinema, Joseph Campbell and Christopher Booker's writings on storytelling, Don Hertzfeldt, the struggles of social anxiety, collector culture as a reactionary coping mechanism to that anxiety, the challenge of journalistic integrity in the age of mass surveillance, the impracticability of various utopian political constructs from pure socialism to post-scarcity economics and the Virtual Revolution, generational distinctions of postmodernism and meta-culture, renewable energy solutions, and the economics of medicine and human health.

After several rousing discussions, we relaxed into nostalgic reminiscence of late 80s / early 90s television and VHS cultural phenomena, including MTV's The Real World, TRL with Carson Daily, Jesse (winner of the first Wanna Be a VJ contest), the fate of the first 20 years of SNL, and a slew of b-grade and kids' horror flicks like The Gate, Monster Squad, Hobgoblins, Munchies, Ghoulies, and others.

This visit provided a much-needed cultural recharge!
