Promiscuous is my preferred nomenclature.

All of those terms are still very much alive among the elderly population. Except for Frownland's maybe. They know their lives are too short to be so flowery with the words.

Is she called Charlotte?
How about courtesan? I do however like Pratchett's term "Ladies of Negotiable Virtue."

Companion?

Anyway...my day...
I teach English as a Foreign Language to Japanese college students. This week they're doing their year-end presentations. Most of them are boring, but there were three standouts today:

1. The Three Little Pigs. In this rendition, the wolf is asthmatic, so he doesn't have the lung power to blow the pigs' houses down. In order to make sure the story turns out as it should, the pigs secretly help the wolf tear their houses down. And in appreciation for their help, the wolf doesn't eat them.

2. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Santa Claus gets some dirt on Rudolph, so he blackmails the reindeer into slave labor pulling his sleigh, even though Rudolph despises winter and likes to spend the holiday at the beach.

3. Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Unfortunately, there have been quite a few burglaries on Christmas Eve, and Santa is arrested as the prime suspect.
