My brother has had a lot on his plate the last month and a half. The following are what he's had to deal with...

1. Week stint in county for back-talking a counselor.
2. His girlfriend breaking up with him for the above reason.
3. A new job that while only being a pizza employee, still requires him to work five nights a week.
4. Along with work he has to go to Out Patient sessions three times a week. They last three hours each.
5. He also has to go to drug court twice a week to be drug tested.

6. To top it all off, a friend of his who he has only known for a month is having family issues and is currently homeless. My brother has a good heart and has been helping him out by buying him lunch and ferrying him to shelters to spend the night.

All of this stuff must have caused him to have a mental breakdown on Sunday because he was at a local convenience store where he started to remove his clothes in the parking lot for an unknown reason. When the police eventually showed up my brother tried to avoid being captured by jumping on the police car and shouting that the mafia was after him and that he's had three guns put to his head today, and that if he goes to jail he's a dead man. The police finally got him and handcuffed him but they thought he was on drugs so they sent him to the hospital first.

No drugs. Tested negative. That is awesome and frightening at the same time because it means he will most likely not go to jail but it also means his mental health issues have gotten pretty severe.

He's still in the hospital and is still stark raven mad. He still thinks there's people after him and he still is spewing out nonsense. The nurses and doctors say that it's one of the longest mental episodes they've seen in a while.

I'm tired of this. I'm not mad at my brother. I'm tired of this countries metal health providers constantly failing my brother. I don't know what he has, but it's serious, and doctors haven't been able to find out what it is in three f*cking years. My family doesn't have a history with schizophrenia otherwise that'd be my first guess considering his behavior. I have no idea what's wrong with him and neither does anybody else.

I feel horrible. I want to help my little brother but I don't know how. I feel helpless. What's worse is that during the episode my brother lost his necklace. It's a pennant with my grandfather's ashes in it. They were close. I'm going to give him mine. He needs my grandfather more than I do.

This is why I'm a bit of a c*nt today.
That's tough, man. All you can do is give your brother all of the love and support that you can. And don't be afraid to ask if YOU need help, too. Your mental health is important too, and it's taking its toll. If you want to chat, PM me, and I'm sure there's several others who would say the same.

call me crazy but the cops shooting 11 times in response to a single shot doesnt sound that crazy to me... especially if there were multiple cops involved

they hear/see a shot and yea they are going to assume they're under fire and at that point they are going to try to kill whoever is doing the shooting

i can only assume cops are like anyone else and are going to take threats against their life pretty seriously and deal with them severely.

i know 11 shots vs 1 might sound excessive.. but tbh i remember in florida in one of the gangfights there was some haitians that followed a car holding 2 rival gang members into a parking lot and lit the car up with 70+ rounds from two combat rifles... and that somehow only resulted in 1 gang member dead and the other one getting away

Yeah, that's a fair point. This isn't a particularly safe neighborhood but last night was out of the norm. I feel referring to it as a shootout is a bit ridiculous. Who knows what actually went down, but I don't believe the suspect actually intended on shooting at the multiple cops that had them surrounded and blocked in. It sounds more like an accident than anything else.

Jwb has a good point, most cops are trained to put 2-3 rounds into someone who has a gun/shooting at them. And if they've already shot at officers once, they'll do it twice. But on the flip side, too, just because 11 shots are fired, doesn't mean that they all found their target. Those 2-3 are an "at least" but always until they stop coming. I know that I have put 31 rounds into someone because after 30 they were still coming. Although that was in combat so slightly different circumstances.

A pair of kids in their early 20's armed robbed a chain restaurant a few miles away and came here to hide out. It didn't take long for the police to catch up to them. The details are still extremely sketchy, but the cops apparently heard a gunshot from the car, which as we now know from them, was from the driver "shooting himself," which in turn prompted the police to shoot, 11 ****ing times, until they ceased so the other passenger could get out of the car. One kid is dead, and the other is in custody. I am calling bull**** on this story.

News outlets are calling it a "shootout."
Meh, at least it was a shootout/robbery. A few years back I was putting my sis to bed when suddenly there was an almighty bang. Had no idea what it was, went to the bedroom window and saw cops arriving at the scene. Turned out some of the new neighbours had said the wrong thing to the wrong people in the wrong pub that night. Said wrong people then followed our neighbours home, shot at their door and threw a pipe bomb at it!

This is why you don't **** with strangers and you ALWAYS stand for the national anthem around here!
