Today was a bad day.

I left my wallet in a friends car last night so I didn't have my license on me when I went out to work today. Murphey's Law reigned its ugly head and I got pulled over. Turns out my vehicle registration was expired by two weeks. ON top of that, I didn't have my license on me. The cops were cool because they technically should have towed my car for it being unregistered but they ended up giving me two tickets for the license and registration. I just looked them up online. The registration ticket is 50 bucks. I'm paying that. The license ticket is $180!

Here's my question. Has anybody done this? I'm going to court on the 25th and going to try to get it dismissed or dropped down. The officer looked me up and saw that I was licensed. I just didn't have the card on me. Maybe I should tell the prosecutor that my wallet got stolen and I got pulled over the day I was going to the DMV to get a new one? Do I have a good shot in getting this tossed? Paying $180 just cause I didn't have my license on me one day is just crazy unfair.

Man, where I live, we never have blizzards, and we're lucky if we get snow once a year. And I can't remember if there ever was an official drought over here.

It's the hurricanes you gotta worry about.

Here too although last year we had quite a bit of snow - at least for us. I realize that places up North just had literal mountains of snow. But, I've had well enough of that.

Sorry bud, but there's not much you can do to fight it. You broke the law. You can, however, see about getting it reduced, depending on the prosecutor handling the case and your previous driving record.

Quote:
7. No person shall operate a commercial motor vehicle without being in
possession of the appropriate license for the motor vehicle being
operated.
That is the exact violation, you're required to have your license at all times whilst operating the vehicle. That was taken from the NY State General Statutes, sub chapter Drivers License, sub chapter Violations.

Do NOT lie to the DA about your wallet being stolen. If it's found out otherwise, you can be charged with attempting to defraud the State of New York.

Not to mention, I'm sure these people have heard a million stories from better bull**** artists than you, so I doubt they'll be anything but annoyed that you're clearly lying to them.

That too but the prospect of possible criminal charges over something admittedly stupid would be terrible. And yes, I looked up the specific law. Why? Because in NC you're not required to have it, just to have it valid. (Which also means that one time I drove through NY when my wallet (and license) was elsewhere I totally broke that law oh well.)

Not to mention that if you start spinning tales, and they catch you out, any leniency they were going to show you will go right out the window and that book will hit you right in the face. Not worth it, man. Make a bad situation far worse.

Exactly. Any and all leniency (including that you didn't know you were getting) *poof* gone.
