Caution: History nerd ramble - Consider just how crazy the history of mosquitoes and malaria is. It killed so many Europeans and Native Americans, that it "forced" the whites to import African slaves who would be immune to the disease, since they lived in such a malaria-infested part of the world. One little ****ing bug, and one even littler ****ing microbe, did all that ****. Check the stats on the requirements for malaria to grow, and you'll see that the conditions it needs to thrive stop right at the latitude better known as the Mason-Dixon line (something about year-round temperatures). But a little Off, and who knows what would have become of black slavery, not to mention just how many Native Americans might have survived.

Granted, since between 70-90% of them died from European diseases inbetween the time that we first discovered America, and the time that we actually started full-scale colonization (so the largest portion of the genocide of the NA peoples was actually entirely unintentional), that it would have had relatively limited impact for the majority, but a much more sizable population may still have survived, making them a much more viable minority in politics, rather than basically an irrelevance with whom we deal only when our guilt compels us to throw them some kind of bone, just so that we can go about the business of exploiting everything we took from them with a "clear" conscience.

Of course, the ability to go into Africa without worrying about malaria may also have granted Europeans an even greater ability to exploit Africa. We actually had a very small presence there, due to ridiculously high death rates from disease among our people, so bug spray might have meant an even ****tier time for Africans.

BTW, according to my Wiki research, the malaria vaccine only came about in the late nineteen hundreds, so if disease was such an impediment to early European colonization of Africa, how the hell did we do so in the eighteen hundreds? Does not compute. Expert opinions needed.
