The city cleared the roads yesterday (using a grader, a loader, and a couple dump trucks), so I hauled out my bike, tuned it up, and took it for a spin. You haven't cycled until you've gone up the steepest hill in town, in high gear, into the wind, in sub-zero weather.

Oh, and I won a pair of concert tickets from my local radio station! They're for…

Spoiler for Chula Vista and Black Francis, get ready to be jealous…:
…Robert Plant and The Pixies!

I probably wouldn't have paid full price for the show, but hey, it's free. Not sure who I'll take, but I'm looking forward to it, if only to say I've seen somebody famous besides Billy Joel.

Plant's got a killer touring band with him. Should be great.

TBH, I'm more excited about the Pixies. :p:

Do you have any idea what to expect from Plant setlist-wise? I know most of Zep's albums inside out, but don't think I could name a single Plant solo song. My only regret about seeing Billy Joel was my disfamiliarity with his deeper cuts, and I don't want to make the same mistake.

I just saw that the Pixies are coming to town in May, and I'm almost certain I won't be able to go. I haven't listened to enough of them to really be bummed, but that's still a show I'd like to see just so I don't end up regretting it one day. Might have to make something happen.

There aren't really a lot of good shows around here unfortunately. I live in a fairly decently-sized area, but for some reason we only one good venue in town, and everything else is a hole-in-the-wall that only attracts third-rate acts and the odd good band who just doesn't have enough clout to book a place they deserve.

Hampton Roads, Virginia just doesn't seem to have much in the way of a happening music scene. Had to go to a ****ing seafood restaurant just to catch some local, bottom-tier deathcore bands a few years ago. :(

Congratz Petsounds :)

i hope you like some of their new stuff cause alot of ppl don't.

@Batlord

i think you could maybe dig a song or 2 but not their whole catalogue. they're not very metal.

Trick! I love me some alternative. I just haven't given the Pixies as much time as other bands. If I can dig dance pop then is it so odd that I could worship at the altar of Violent Femmes, the Replacements, and Sonic Youth? Granted, I listen to 90% metal, but anything goes with the other 10%.

Black Francis 03-18-2015 04:13 PM

Yes it is, don't break out of character.

Im just trying to spare you their softer songs.
For exmpl if what you like in music is rawness you might wanna try Surfer rosa

If you're looking for something more polished try Doolittle or Bossanova

I'd say Crackity Jones or Tame.

Josef K 03-18-2015 05:00 PM

Their new stuff is godawful. I probably wouldn't see them without Kim Deal.

You know what I learned today? You can send Mormon missionaries to people's houses to talk about Jesus Christ. Some of my friends are going to find out how persistent those mother****ers are.
