So my uncle Javier died in a freak accident today while transporting goods in an 18-wheeler in NY. Didn't very much know him too well, but my other uncle (his brother) I care for and love deeply, so I completely empathize with him. I'm shipping over to Texas on Thursday for all the services and whatnot. Won't be back till Monday. What a fucking mess.

:( sorry to hear for your loss.

a few years ago I lost my uncle, too. I didn't know him well but somehow I felt it in my heart when he passed (he had a long battle with lung cancer) - I knew before my mother had the chance to tell me.

I hope the accident wasn't too messy - people can make such a mess, it's horrifying and sad - also quite terrifying how a person can go from a person to decimated FUBAR matter in seconds.

Thanks Lil. The truck he was driving was transporting huge poles that weren't sealed correctly and he was approaching a tunnel he quickly knew he couldn't go under because of the height of the truck, slammed his breaks, and a huge pole burst through the crate and into the back of his head. So going off that knowledge, I imagine his head popped like a watermelon, brain matter and everything. No open casket for him, I hope.

my absolute worst fear is dying in a motor vehicle accident. truly grotesque.

I'm so, so sorry that happened to him.

Very sorry for your loss JTF. Even if you hardly knew him, I know it still hits closer to home than you'd like it to.

Thanks friends, and Plankton, it hits home very hard for me. All of this rings back to my brother passing away a few months ago, so my empathy grows so large for my uncle who is mourning right now. I called him yesterday and told him straight up, verbatim, "It might be overwhelming right now and shocking, obviously sad, but it's not gonna get easier. All of this will slowly start becoming more comprehensible, and it'll get harder, but I love you and you just need to hang in there."

No easier way to put it, honestly.
