Strip mall karate is bull****. It's really just a way for parents to get their kids out of the house so they can have old people sex. I'm willing to bet money that if you get into a fight that all that "training" goes right out the window and you start throwing street punches just like everybody else.

High school was weird for me. Went to four different high schools, met my first boyfriend from one of their forums, got drunk with him and his graduated friends all the time but still kept that 4.0 son. I really didn't give a **** about the people in the school because I already had folks to hang with when the bell rang. Just read a lot, headphones in constantly, never got ****ed with or talked to, except by teachers who thought I had family problems and wouldn't leave me the hell alone.

Moral of the story. Find your high school's forum or Facebook page. I mainly met people that had graduated and were trolling them, but it was still friends in the area. And meanwhile, do the lone wolf thang.

I know all about the YMCA and strip mall karate. But the head instructor of my dojo has been in karate for 47 years, is in the Global Martial Arts Hall of Fame (alongside Bruce Lee), and was on friendly terms with Shoshin Nagamine (the guy who pioneered Shorin-ryu karate). We're talking contact sparring and workouts that routinely involve 150 sit-ups. It's not the babysitting kind of martial arts. In fact, one of the assistant instructors won a world kickboxing title in 2008.

I learnend a valuable lesson today.
I am not a doctor. Sigh I thought I was one and subsequently ended up ****ing up and infecting my bloodstream.
Now I can't work for three days and if I dont stop feeling ****ter then I have all day,I must return to the hospital and stay there until better...

I can understand where he's coming from, though. My femle cousins are involved in a "karate" dojo where the twenty-something instructor gives out stripes for each belt (an additional grading fee, of course ). No regular sparring, of course, and on the rare occasion they do, it's with so much equipment they couldn't feel an anvil. When they show off their techniques to their older cousin, I don't really want to tell them what they've learned is useless.
