I realized today how much I dislike high school. There are almost no people my age I can relate to - they're all caught up in their cliques and trying to be "cool". When I started this year, I tried to befriend people, but because I'm a good listener and sympathetic, it ended up with me listening to them talk about their problems and achievements - they didn't care about me. I eat lunch on my own, most of the time. The people I care about and can actually converse with all go to other schools. I've alienated myself from most of the guys because I stood up for a girl they were talking about behind her back and in general, don't care to hear others put down. I really don't care for most teenaged girls. The friends I've made are mostly people I've stood up for. People don't like working with me on assignments because I'm a perfectionist and don't believe in "it's good enough". Oh, and did I mention the three jocks who have threatened to beat me up because I understand math that they don't?

highschool is great, and I think not having a good time during it is something youd regret. my hs was relatively small, but there was still tons of people that I found were easy to befriend (might be different with my case tho, as there were still sort of cliques, they were fairly fluid, so it wasn't really "jocks" over here "nerds" over there. There was maybe 10-20 people at my graduation that I didn't know).
My advice is to go to parties, drink, have fun. do things. just experience stuff. Even if you don't like it, it's great learning and practice for the future. You can never start networking too young. I feel as though a lot people who talk most about how others don't understand them just need to interact with people more. I may have used this example before here but there was this girl that I went to HS with who, at the time, I thought was just a typical "dumb blonde" popular girl type. We rarely talked much then (had some mutual friends, and she hosted some parties, but not much else), but yeah I basically cast her off as that. After highschool she ended up going to the same uni as me for a semester and we had breaks together and now we're still great friends. Highschool is basically just a pile of misconceptions and typecasting (and not just on the popular kids side), but really you can find common ground with almost anyone. I don't even know if I made any advice in this post lol but ~party~ would be my main one |

I didn't think cliques were actually a thing in the real world. I thought it was just bull**** from movies. In my school nobody is really the most popular. Nerds/geeks/whatever are just as popular as, well anybody else. Isn't everybody a geek nowadays anyway? I still think the same way as you ninetails. About the typical dumb blond. There is just too many in my school. I try to look for the best in people, but they act like stupid bitches and I give up.

Maybe not cliques in the traditional sense of the word, but because I have a mind of my own, I'm a bit of an outcast.
Cheers, Ninetales, I'll keep what you say in mind. Just venting about it has sort of relaxed me.
