Speaking of 9/11

i was getting my hair cut today and the barber shop they had a local variety show on where one of the female announcers came in dressed as a plane and hugged another host dressed as a building.

I thought it was a little ****ed up how they made the whole thing a joke but by them hugging at the end they think they made it into something positive..

it was the opening skit of the show and they quickly moved on but i thought it was in bad taste they did that sh*t..

This is the only comedy routine about 9/11 that I can appreciate:

Had a cute Asian chick I barely know pretty much tell me that I should come along to a show this weekend. I think she's pretty funny, but is pretty pleb when it comes to music. I mean, sure, GY!BE is a start...

I'm getting a little nervous thinking about it, but she said she would buy me a beer, and she's a year older than me. What to do, what to do...

Edit: She just messaged me back saying she's hoping I go. ARGHHHHH ANXIETY WHYYYYYYYYYY

Erm... go to the show?

You can find humor in anything. I have a hard time with 9/11 jokes because of the impact it had on my friends, my family, and myself. I knew people who lost fathers. I grew up in a fire department. I saw my father in tears when they read off the names of all the firefighters who lost their lives. He wasn't just crying cause they died. He was crying because he didn't get a chance to go to the city to help out. He had to stay behind in case there were fires where we lived which was about 20 miles west of NYC. When I got home from school that morning, I could see smoke from my backyard...for what seemed like days. My aunt and grandfather were in the city that morning. My mothers face when I asked her if they were okay, when she didn't actually know, still brings tears to my eyes. I didn't see my uncle for months after that because he was cleaning up and looking for survivors and bodies.

I try to find humor, but I just really can't. I can however respect the attempt to find humor. What you described wasn't just distasteful and disrespectful, but it also just wasn't funny. Who would find that funny? I don't find that funny.

Yeah, that's just not the way to go about finding humor in this particular event. It's tasteless and absolutely lacking in any sensitivity.

Especially on the anniversary. Not cool.

I know that's why i didn't like it but it was a local variety show that is mostly about gossiping and making stupid jokes about local celebrities so that kind of ignorance was somewhat expected.

I went to the supermarket today to do a bit of shopping and if by luck found myself there at the same time as a bunch of special needs kids there on a visit.

One kid was running around trying to give all his money away to people. Another kid dropped his money in the car park and narrowly avoided getting run over picking it up. Some other kid went to get back on the bus and the teacher found a bunch of food she'd stolen in her bag, others started fighting with each other in the entrance and the rest of them milled looking vacant & lost while getting in everyone's way.

It was pretty funny.
