So the guys were all palling around saying it won't work because people (before my time there) had tried it many times before, for years, and it never worked, so they were wasting all sorts of time trying to think of alternatives.

So I walked to the computer whose SQL database needed to be accessed by the other computer, opened SQL Configuration Manager and set a port for it to listen on and the static IP of the computer, then restarted the SQL service. Opened that port up in the firewall for incoming connections from the static IP of the other computer. Went to the other computer and modified the software's connection string in its config file to use the IP address of the database computer with the listening port and appropriate SQL username and password, then hit save.

Opened the application and it connected to the database of the other computer. Took me like 2 minutes. Solved. I'm not even a full blown DBA and I know this. I thought software developers learned things about SQL and other database solutions in college. It is, after all, the back-end of any application, web or not, that stores data. Why am I the one solving these things?

Anyway, I did a victory walk back to my desk.

Then surfed Reddit for the rest of the day.

I know a few of these words

Congratz Freebase Dali. I once had a more simple situation, but I get what you mean.
My IT-professor messed around with W-LAN in school. He asked me if I'd like to join a voluntary subject where we'd fix that.
I've taken that subject once before, and ended up setting up PCs alone, instead of learning about network engineering. I'll never do that again.
I mean, the professors have been studying at the university for years and can't solve an issue like resetting a router?

Anyway, I've had a German exam today. The topic was the Austrian school system. Well, I tried to make the best out of it. I finished writing 900 words in 2 hours.
Also, I've done a presentation about movie soundtracks in the music lesson. I got told of my classmates that they enjoyed the topic and the music as well. :)
Technically it's been a good day so far, but I'm exhausted. I still have to study for the accounting exam. Yay!

Well I don't know if your area is similar to mines but it is all about being related to the person with the job and they don't care about your education level.

It's a bunch of good ole' boy bullshit.

You'll be just fine. They don't care about your experience or education level. Just be related to someone that works where you want to and you are in.

I'm a couple of modules behind SQL query, I will soak my brain sponge with your knowledge.

Today I was having a serious conversation with a coworker when I noticed that the guy who sits next to her had an AV dongle with a very long cord sitting on his desk, and the phrase "Greg has the longest dongle I've ever seen" flashed through my mind. I could barely keep it together for the rest of the conversation and made quite a few weird noises in my efforts to contain what was threatening to erupt as hysterical laughter.
