Have spent the past few days trying to pick up a cheap PS3 from somewhere. Keep finding ones for about £50 on gumtree but I don't know whether it's worth the risk of buying one that way, as knowing my luck it'll have the YLOD or something will be wrong with it.

But then again, I'll have the guy's address, so if he sells me a ****ty one I can always go and egg his house.

Well you'd play it a little before you buy it, making sure it's in working order before you buy it. Then, once you got it home, if you get the YLOD that'd hardly be his/her fault.

The risk is valid. Esp. with the frequency that PS3 went dark.

Check the model number of the console you are buying. If it is one of the 80GB/40GB fat models with ports for four controllers. Avoid at all cost. Yeah you can play ps2 games on it but it will likely YLOD on you sooner or later.

Well I was doing my COOP term here so Ill be back in school in January. Was here for the last 8 months. As much as I love the moolah im pretty stoked to get back to the uni life.
