I had a cat who really loved Christmas. We had countless photos of him with a mini Santa cap, posed next to the tree (he loved to sit under it, and when he was feeling naughty he'd bite at the branches and paw the ornaments off the bottom tiers). He was the most mellow cat ever. He'd be 14 years old on the 23rd of this month. RIP little mellow baby.

it's really the only thing that keeps me from adopting senior cats.
My baby died a few months after I moved (I live pretty far away from my family - he was my parents' cat but he was essentially my baby) but I must have cried over him for months. I'm ok now for the most part (it's been almost 2 years) but I'm pretty attached to Ki's aging kitty (we see him every so often but we lived within close quarters of that sweet little kitty for about a year). I fear the loss of that cat, I love him so much (even though he's not my cat, I don't know - I love everyone's pets as if they're my own). Animals are special. Anyone who can say that they aren't as valuable as humans clearly isn't thinking, and they're no friend of mine.

Yeah, animals are very special. And in some ways wiser than humans. They don't give a s**t about your politics, your philosophies, your status, they don't care what football team you support, or any of that crap; they care only that you love them and treat them well. If only people were that intelligent.
And they bring out the best in us too. They allow us to drop the ego, the attitude, the mask, allow us to be our simple and loving selves thoroughly. |

What a back handed compliment. There was a story about my city in the NY Times recently saying that this city reminds them of 1980s Brooklyn before it was gentrified.
