My day today is ****ing boring, so I'll focus on the last two instead.

I got up at around 6am on Saturday morning, after roughly two hours sleep due to going to the pub the night before and then having pizza and watching Iron Maiden 'Live After Death' DVD, and dragged myself up and out, stocked up on energy drinks and sugary treats, and hit the road with a mate of mine where we drove the roughly 3-3.5 hours to Download Festival.

The combination of violent but brief rain showers and glaring sun, and the effect of getting both sunburnt and soaked through, was certainly odd. The festival site was obviously a swamp and this wasn't too much fun either, but the day was pretty fantastic. I watched Earthtone 9, Black Moth, Mastodon, Motorhead (where Phil Campbell was rocking a Sheldon Cooper 'Big Bang Theory' t-shirt, and where the band also invited former drummer Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor on stage for an embrace, and to take a bow with the current line-up, which was nice to see. He doesnt look in good health at all), QOTSA and Iron Maiden.

Iron Maiden put a pretty stunning show together, including Bruce Dickinson presumably using his connections to get some RAF lads to organise flying over Donington Park, and 75000 fans, with a replica WWII Spitfire!

I got home around 4am on the Sunday morning. Slept for a few hours before going out for Fathers Day lunch with my parents and sister, then to a large national park nearby with my sister where they had a little bit of a funfair on, food and drink stalls, live music etc which was fun. Met up with my sisters friend and her kid. Never have I seen such an unresponsive child. Its shocking really, and very sad. She obviously receives no stimulation, as she is completely unresponsive, even to a funfair.

Then I spent the rest of the day drinking with my sister before getting pizza, to round off both an exciting and relaxing weekend. While I am absolutely physically exhausted today, I am also considerably more alert, upbeat and positive than I have been for quite some time.

To "Aces High" I assume. That sounds pretty damn life affirming. I might just have killed myself right there, cause it would have all been down hill after that.

No, it was before they started. I presume because I would imagine the flight time and the air space has to be reserved in advance, and therefore the organisers of the festival would have to time things perfectly, make sure nobody overruns, make sure Maiden are ready to go on time etc.

They had the plane fly over and circle round a little, before Maidens intro video etc came on.

EDIT: Aces High came later on. The Churchill speech (and video) was the beginning of the encore.

Still, since I remember that they start shows with "Aces High" I'm sure it was suitably amazing. I am jealous of you and wish for your death. Nothing personal though.

Yeah, they have often started sets with the Churchill speech and Aces High. This tour they are starting with Moonchild, as they did on the Seventh Tour of a Seventh Tour tour (blimey) in '88, which the current set is based on. But putting Aces High in the encore works!

Aw. Seems like an obvious missed opportunity. I mean, I've never seen them live, but I imagine that there isn't much that could take away from Iron Maiden on a festival stage, but still...

On Wednesday I have to sing in front of my music class. Really not looking forward to it but I also really am. Any advice?
