Today has been quite an up and down day. I went out to FedEx to get my business cards printed. I knew I didn't have TOO much time, and that business card printers are rather expensive. I decided on them, since they're close by and I wouldn't have to worry about shipping. I wasn't looking forward to the price though, considering it'd be around $45.00 + tax, and that's if I chose the basic one. On top of that, the minimum was 250, and I only need 50 at most. The worst part is that I really don't have much cash, so it hurt.
When I got there I said I'd be getting business cards printed, and he said, "How many do you want?" I said, "Whatever the absolute minimum is". He replied, "Well, you can get however many you want. 250 is just for our printing press." I found out it would only be around $30, and that they'd be done in a few hours. I was ecstatic.
I got a call around 9:00, saying that they were all done. Instead of waiting until tomorrow, I wanted to see how they came out so I went and got them right away. I checked them out to make sure they printed okay, and they seemed fine. When I got home, and on further inspection, I realized they were horribly thin. "I can't give these to designers. They can't even support their own weight." Mind you, this is for a class where we'll be meeting with local designers to show off our work. This is when I realized that this kind of business card was for local businesses who didn't care.
As each minute passed, I became more and more disappointed. I looked to my fragrance collection, and decided to make a few posts in some fragrance groups I'm a member of on Facebook. I told them I'd sell whatever I had. I need the money. I refuse to give out these business cards, and I don't know if they will return them.
In a few minutes time I get a message from one of the members. He's on my Facebook and I had conversed with him a few times previously. He asked, "What's your Paypal address?" I responded with it, and asked, "Which one are you interested in?" "Whatever one you like the least." At this point I realized it was almost like a donation, and I felt pretty damn elated that someone this kind existed. "Actually, whatever one you like the best", he sent shortly thereafter. I then checked my Paypal, wondering if he actually sent me something. I was selling everything for $35, with an exception of a rare one that was discontinued years ago. I was selling that one for $50.
He sent me $75.00.
He responded, "I already have too many fragrances. Just hold on to that one."
I feel like I'm on a cloud. A man I've never met in real life sent me real money for an issue that doesn't affect him. Unbelievable.
