Owner of our company just plopped a big bag of food down in front of me.

Right on cue. I was hungry.

Her spiel about vaccines causing autism in children is great entertainment. It's a ****ing riot.

The jury is still out on whether or not vaccines cause autism, but needlessly putting those dangerous chemicals into your body is ignorant and irresponsible. Do some research. More people get sick from vaccines than from the maladies which they are designed to prevent and or/treat. People gravely underestimate the power of the human body to heal itself. Pharmaceutical companies don't cure people, they create lifelong customers.

I'm sure if we had a child with autism then our thinking would be different as well.

My brother is autistic and I do not believe vaccines caused it. The condition is equally as prevalent in developing countries where vaccinations are not available, so explain that. My brother has three friends from school (they are siblings) who are on the spectrum and none of them were vaccinated until after receiving a diagnosis (so they probably got a booster shot after starting school - you can't attend school here without a vaccination record and schooling is mandatory). Also, symptoms of autism (in all it's forms) have been documented for centuries, while vaccines are a 20th century invention.

I actually think the doctor who introduced this notion had his medical license revoked a couple of years ago.

I don't have to explain anything, as I made no claims on the subject except that putting dangerous chemicals into your body is not a good thing. I doubt anyone would argue that. The concept of a vaccine is to get your body acclimated to the virus on a small scale so that if you encounter it in the future then your immune system will be able to better fight it off. I don't see how things like mercury and formaldehyde could be beneficial. Throwing random toxins into the mixture and then fear mongering the public into getting vaccinated is wrong. Period. They treat the public like guinea pigs.

The body probably makes more formaldehyde as a waste by-product than is present in a single dose of a vaccine. The by-product of alcohol breakdown in the body, acetaldehyde, is considered a possible carcinogen in extreme doses. It's what causes the hangover anyways.

I'm not sure about laws regarding vaccinations in the US, but in Canada formaldehyde is not part of the processed vaccine and preservatives are minute and being reduced. It's Your Health - Misconceptions about Vaccine Safety

No, it isn't. The whole thing goes back to one story published in The Lancet, which has since been retracted, by one guy who has since been accused of fraud.

Yes, Andrew Wakefield. That's the quack doctor who had his license rightfully revoked by the General Medical Council in the UK. He manipulated evidence and had some conflicts of interest while doing his research.

So what do you guys think is the reason for the dramatic rise in autism? I realize that they have widened the scope of symptoms that fall under the autism spectrum, but that can't be the only reason that cases are more than 100 times more prevalent than they were in the 1970's.
