Woke up this morning to the Istanbul skyline (darkened by ominous clouds) and a few tanker ships shredding up the Bosphorus. Boyfriend's sister and her boyfriend peaced out at 8am and I slept through that ****. We went to the super market so I could buy a goddamn pumpkin for the pumpkin pie I'm making for our New Year's Eve party. Some bitch at the store made me eat a sausage sample. Then I came home and wrapped one present for the party. It's an exercise ball.
All in all, a good day so far. |

I once walked all the way round Edinburgh Zoo with a sticky willy on my back courtesy of my mate.

Had an interesting day. I saw Django Unchained at 11 at night and before the movie started, a group of people started asking the crowd (it was a packed theater) which Tarantino flick they preferred best and surprisingly most everyone chimed in an answer, including me. It was strange, yet pretty awesome that I was watching yet another Tarantino masterpiece with a packed crowd full of die-hard Tarantino fans. The movie started and got an applause and when it ended, it was a standing ovation.

I know right? You may find it disturbing, but what I'm about to tell you will increase your horror exponentially.
In Turkey, Christmas has become New Year's. That is to say, New Year's has become Christmas..or...er...the two holidays are merged. Exhibit A: This is a link to a popular Wal-Mart-like chain. You will see a Christmas tree on the first thumbnail. The writing, translated, says "Happy New Year." WHAT, you may ask, is a Chirstmas tree doing celebrating the new year? Ok, perhaps this example was not so terrifying. This one surely is: Happy New Year! It is a google image search of the words "Happy New Year" in Turkish. SNOWMEN...ok....balloons....ok....SANTA? NO. ANGELS? NO. WTF?? It's possible that I'm overly concerned about this issue, but it seriously makes me angry. Muslim country does not want to celebrate Christmas, YET, they want its symbolisms, colors, and traditions to be commericalized?! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH So back to the pumpkin pie: I couldn't find pumpkin at Thanksgiving or Christmas. As it turns out, just this week its in season in Turkey! Come and get it!! |
