I just realised I communicated this whole thing horribly. The History Aptitude Test is actually only necessary to enter Oxford and Cambridge (I'm not sure how famous they are outside the UK but they're basically our Ivy League). Trouble is, due to the way the system here is set up applying for Oxford or Cambridge and failing your HAT reflects very poorly on you as a candidate for other Unis, as well as knocking out your first position Uni choice which is a very bad thing to happen, meaning I'm gonna have to work my arse off to stand any chance of getting in anywhere else.

So, you know how I was bitching a while back about the owner of the company I work for being el-cheapness with the production servers we have? Well, yesterday I put together a proposal, called a meeting, and laid everything out, provided diagrams and details about the proposed system and the benefits, including justification and ROI, and he went for it!

So today I got the company credit card, and blew through 10,000 dollars worth of server upgrades that will cover us for high availability, redundancy and scalability.

You obviously live in a parallel dimension where corporate leaders make decisions outside the sphere of thoughtless inertia. I envy you my friend.

Haha!
I think I had the benefit of him not being all that technically inclined, but heavily reliant on our technically inclined personnel, as it is a software development company, and the technically inclined basically make it what it is.
He's not stupid. He knows he has to trust us if he wants his company to succeed. He just wants to be convinced through and through, because ever since I brought up the issues with the current system, he's obviously smarting from the decision to allow my predecessor to buy such inadequate equipment. I realize he doesn't want to make the same mistake, so I had to really break out the big guns on this one.

As an aside, diagrams and generally anything that looks pretty and is easy to understand is a high-scorer with him! lol

My brother told my mom "**** you" and I almost beat the **** out of him. Funny thing is, he's a lot older and I could seriously kick his ass.
