Another day at work. I work about half an hour away in theory, but I have to take the Interstate East, which puts me directly in the path of the blinding sun. Shades and the car's visor really don't help much. The traffic on the interstate slows to about 50...slower on particularly blinding stretches...as a result of the hellish rising sun.

I have to get up at five to shower, blow dry my hair, get dressed, eat breakfast, have a coffee and a smoke, and leave at 7 to get to work at 8.

The pay's solid, though, and I get 40 hours a week and benefits, so I really can't complain too much, I guess.

^ I work the opposite way of the sun. A prerequisite for my job searches in the past.

Saw some squad cars flying down the street last night, then this morning I find out there was a drive-by shooting down the street. No one was hurt and 7 people were arrested. I know this is just an isolated incident but still... too damn close for comfort.

Also got a call from our singer saying that we'll be practicing tonight for Saturdays gig, so that's got me jumpin.

...oh, and a friend of mine called me to tell me his **** was glowing in the dark from a bottle of blackberry vodka I gave him yesterday. Great. Thanks for that.

Contemplating life without cigarettes

it's so hard, I don't really crave cigarettes. My routine is all ****ed up and I feel weird not having a cigarette at times I normally have one. That is the hardest part. Also patches are ****ing shyte.

This sixty-something year old chain smoker who I work with, who absolutely reeks of cigarettes at all times, who in fact had just come back into the office from one of his many daily smoke breaks, just saw me with a can of Red Bull and told me "that stuff will kill you."

Seriously buddy?

Rather similiar to a workman I had working on my house a couple of years ago. He found some mould caused through dampness on one wall and stated that the toxins released from the mould could cause cancer, whilst saying this he was puffing away on a cigarette. The mould was easily cured with improved ventilation but he is still smoking heavily.
