Yesterday was a fun day, relaxed day at work so I got caught up on a lot of filing that had been building up and then went over to a friend's place for her going away party. She had invited a couple of other friends from work so I got to meet new people which is always fun. We ended up playing wine roulette, but in actuality it was more like wine spin the bottle. Basically we took a bunch of bottles of wine, arranged them in a circle, then put a smaller bottle of something (brandy I think), in the circle and spun it. Which ever one it pointed to was the bottle we drank, in the end we polished off 9 bottles of red wine of varying style and quality, and two bottles of white wine which I didn't drink because I don't like white wine.

After a few people left, another person came by with a game called Cards Against Humanity, which is essentially Apples to Apples, but for horrible people. Everyone gets seven white cards, all of which have something written on them and one person puts down a black card which either asks a question or asks you to fill in the blank with something from your 7 cards. It then gets judged by the person who drew the black card and the winner gets a point. Here's an example of one of the times I won, the black card said "Because of customer complaints and health and safety issues, Wal-Mart no longer stocks ______" My card, "Two midgets shiting in a bucket", so the complete state reads out "Because of customer complaints and health and safety issues, Wal-Mart no longer stocks two midgets shiting in a bucket".

Got an unpaid gig writing about wrestling for a sports website today. I'm going in as a syndicated writer, which is typically something that has to be earned, so I'm ecstatic. I've got three articles being written on right now, one of which will be published in the AM (as per suggestion) and the other two of which will be published on the two subsequent days.

I really want to drink to celebrate, but I'm not about to walk five miles round trip to do so. I'm thinking of waiting 'til my mother gets home and either a.) Borrowing her car as mine is not usable right now or b.) Ask her if I can just have her crappy Bud Light. I'd rather not do the second, but I also am not a fan of driving a car which doesn't currently have anti-lock brakes.

Decisions, decisions.

Oh, and I'm kind of in a mood because Michigan St (my fourth favorite team) was defeated by Louisville (my least favorite team). Bastards.

My theater did 300 people last night for the midnight show of Hunger Games. The company made $67,000 in one night. Never expected it to be this busy.

The one in my area was ridiculous, too. Five sold out showings of the movie in their five biggest theaters. In a city of 22,000, it's pretty impressive when hundreds of people go to the midnight showing for one movie. The craziest one I ever went to was a Harry Potter, and that was only in three theaters. Oh, and The Dark Knight - also in three.

My little sister loves the books and was scandalized when she saw that it was PG-13 because she thought they'd made it more grown-up. I was like, "Uh, dude...you do realize that the entire premise of the first one is pretty much kids are killing each other on live TV, right? That's not exactly PG..."

When you say the first one, are you talking about Battle Royale? The Japanese version? I can't tell if they're related or not.

LoathsomePete 03-23-2012 11:06 AM

They're not, from what I've gathered The Hunger Games is the unnatural spunk baby produced from a mutual masturbation session involving Battle Royale, The Long Walk, The Running Man, and Surviving the Game (mostly for the forested setting).

Battle Royale > Hunger Games, always.

I don't even need to see Hunger Games to confirm this either.

I went to the premiere. My friend's girlfriend wanted to see it, so he decided to drag me along too. He paid for my ticket so I had nothing to lose. Before he said what it was called, I'd never heard of it in my life. I guess it's a huge sensation? I'm out of the loop I suppose.
