Okay, so I've lost the will to live. My ex-fiancee, along with her husband, have written a film based on the relationship between her and me. They're raising money for it right now on indiegogo. I'm not portrayed in a positive light, either. Wonderful.

I'm not sure if I could sue for this, but I'm pretty devastated.

That's f*cked up and a really ****ty thing to do. That happened in an episode of How I Met Your Mother once.

That's ****ed.
Still, Sara, if there's no way for people to find out it's you; **** it. Don't even watch it.

If it's clear that you are being ridiculed, then I think you have a very good chance here.

Shows a lot about them that they are prepared to make a film just to make fun of you.

It's really horrible of them and I feel very sorry for you.

That's craziness.

Worst day ever. I actually give up. My mate who likes me won't **** off. He's doing my ****ing head in now. I also was supposed to go through to the capital (Edinburgh) for 3/4 days at new year, I had to drop out. Losing the money too, and/or the will to live. Had a massive argument with my parents and I'm honestly just tired of it. I need to get out of here for good asap. :/:(

This is very grim. I'm very sorry about that, and I hope you manage to find a way of moving out of that awful village.
No offense to James!

I'm definitely going to have to watch that to add some humor to the situation. At this point, I'm not amused.

Well, the only people who would find out are people who knew both of us circa 2008 or so. Which is still a fair amount of people, as she and I performed in the Rocky Horror Show together, and there were around 50 regulars, press releases, and a full house every show. Not to mention the cast and crew, and people I worked on student films with.

I'm definitely not going to watch it. The only people who will see it are the people at the smaller film festival they submit to - which I won an award for acting at a few years ago in a video for their company.

Still, that's around an audience of anywhere from 35-100 folks. And if it wins, they get an IMDB page for it. Lovely.

The thing is, I just saw them earlier this year, and was completely friendly and cordial. I was very uncomfortable, but talked to them and didn't act like a jerk at all. They seemed to do the same, and I was like, "Finally. Whenever I see them it's not going to be that awkward and stuff anymore."

Now, I think it's going to be just as bad as it was a few months after the break-up.

I really want to send them a cease and desist - my good friend's mother is an attorney specializing in copyright cases, so I feel that could work out well. At the very least, she'd be able to tell me if I have a case...

At the same time, I don't want to be the one to start the drama. I'm hurt and embarrassed, but I'm also not a fan of making a scene. :(

Hopefully they'll either not get the film in the festival, or they'll not win at the festival. That really minimizes the damage right there, but nothing can take away from it fully - the damage has certainly been done.

All I can offer you is a big hug from over the sea.
I'm really sorry for you. It's awful :(.
How can they do this to you? Have they got... no feelings whatsoever?

ThePhanastasio 12-27-2011 03:47 PM

God, I don't even know. The thing is, if they asked me, especially after we got on so well last time I saw them, I would have said okay, so long as I was portrayed in a positive light and got a copy of the script to okay bits and pieces of it. I'm all for artistic expression, but doing this without even attempting to contact me and raising money for it publicly is just cold. Especially since they're using something that is blatantly my likeness with nothing but the name changed, and portraying me so negatively...I was not the bad guy in the situation. I got cheated on, lied to, and lost a lot of money. If anything, I was too nice and even when I strongly suspected the cheating, I avoided confrontation and acted like nothing was going on.

If they want to humanize the characters based on themselves, and justify their actions, then why can't they just make all of the characters human, the conflict being the situation itself, and not any invented personality flaws coming into play to make themselves the protagonists?

I really expected better from them. I really did. This is like a slap in the face.

s_k 12-27-2011 04:15 PM

I can't help but thinking: It's still someone who once was your fiancee, how can someone be so heartless towards someone they once loved?

And it's nice that you would actually allow it if only for artistic expression. That's really brave of you.
