FETCHER. 11-11-2011 03:59 AM

Wearing my little poppy with pride today and about to begin a 2 minute silence. I hope you all are doing the same! Lest we forget.

HOLY ****ING GOD. I seriously just realized that my sister's wedding is no longer just "in a few weeks" and I no longer have plenty of time to get things ready...because her wedding is a week from tomorrow, and I still haven't bought my bridesmaid dress!

Yikes. I'm going to do that later on today. :(

If she knew, she would definitely beat me down.

I have never heard more hatred being poured at me from all sides.

People are comparing students and faculty at my school to the inactivity of German citizens during the Holocaust.

My education has turned from representing a legitimate institution little more than a week ago into a brand of moral complacence today.

Playing the blame game has effectually destroyed many more lives than this horrible tragedy originally stole from the world.

Please be compassionate.

And the idiots rioting over there are just making the reputation worse (I assume we're talking about Penn State here).

If you mean that literally, I'd stay away from the wedding alltogether if I were you :D

No riot is going to supersede the magnitude of this tragedy. That being said, the outright hatred being poured on us as a community is absolutely devastating. To have such a terrible thing happen in this community AND then the community itself be vilified for it is heart-wrenching and extremely difficult to comprehend.

If you have a conscience, I recommend NOT fueling the media firestorm. It isn't helping the victims or their families, and it just ostracizes our community further. Call it how you see it, but keep your righteous anger to yourself and channel it towards something productive.

I found out yesterday Westboro Baptist Church is planning to picket tomorrow (presumably at the football game). I really hope I never see them.

This is a contradictory request.
I'm honestly sorry that your community as a whole has to suffer for it because only a select few deserve it. But, if anything, this kind of reprehensible cover-up that was carried on for years in the name of college football (the thing that earns your school a major portion of the money needed to remain a legitimate educational institution) definitely deserves intense media coverage and scrutiny. That's how I see it.

Westboro Baptist would probably be the best thing really, people hate them so much they'd probably start sympathizing with Penn State.

**** those idiots. I've already had to deal with their presence twice in my life, and wouldn't wish that irritation on any other sane person.

I wore mine yesterday too, and stuck it to my PC at work, where I observed my silence.

There was a couple of people made little noises two or three times throughout which, while the silence was really well observed, still kinda irritated me. It always does. Like the woman who moved the cup on her desk further away from her....why would you do something like this, which is gonna make a noise, at this specific time of the day? It's only 2 minutes of your day. I ensure I make NO noise in those 2 minutes. My PC was locked, and I sat, with my hands together (not like I was praying, though :p:), didnt fidget, didnt rearrange furniture, didn't move a muscle. I don't see what's so difficult about it.
