My buddy bought a hookah and that really helped him quit.

MAKE SURE TO GET TEA SHISHA, not tobacco shisha. It also takes a while to get the coals lit and get the hookah started and all of that - so the effort means you'd probably just smoke one bowl of shisha a day or so, and that would really, really help you quit.

He hasn't smoked cigarettes in almost a year now.

So I'm off on holiday today. If anybody here's grown to like me, I won't be here for a couple of weeks. Bye!

My friend had same problem, tried to quit cold turkey, and just couldn't do it. Told him to switch to the green, he quit smoking in less than a month.

I heard e-cigs work miracles as well, give those a try.

Can't afford green and we put cigarettes in joints here so I'd probs just end up smoking those cigs.

i suggest not carrying currencies less than a tenner in cash when you go out at night. the only time i can justify spending money on cigs is when i'm planning on getting tanked on a bar crawl and i've got change to blow.

and if you're actually a habitual smoker and not just a drunk one...avoid convenience stores like the plague.

I have no money so not carrying anything should be a help. I think I could quit better if I was drunk constantly because I'm never interested in smoking when I'm drunk :(.

Tips wise, think of something else you enjoy doing and do it as often as possible. I love coffee, so I'm drinking gallons of the stuff. Also, try and coax one of your friends into quitting with you if you have smoker chums. My housemate has joined me in the big quit, and we're kind of supporting each other - it's a massive help.

Above all else, just remember how ****ty cigarettes actually are. They make you smell, age your skin, stain your teeth, blacken you lungs and clog your arteries. All of that translates into quite a big incentive.

Good luck.

Thanks, I'm just trying to stay away from all things that I do when I smoke, like driving and such. I'll survive the day yet I think :).

Sunflower seeds. Whenever I've gone cold turkey I've always gone through a few bags of sunflower seeds during the first few days. By day four you'll be fine.

Really, whereabouts could I buy those?

I don't even know what that is! I doubt I'd be able to afford one anyways :(.

Thanks everyone. You all gave me ideas to keep me busy :).

I carried a pack of polos with me when I quit my 20 a day habit, and just ate one when I felt the need for a smoke. The first couple of weeks were hard, a couple of nights I couldnt sleep at all. But now, I'd never go back to smoking, I enjoy being healthy too much.

I managed today fine, I nearly caved. But then I thought that I'd just need to start the whole process again... :)

I call them tabs to make it easier for MB!

I have quit so many times and I always go cold turkey. I once gave up for 2 years but started again which is probably the worse thing to do with your body.

The problem I have is that I originally started smoking after a few beers and only smoked when I was drinking but as that became more frequent the smoking filtered through to everyday life.

A tab goes so well with a drink, I always relapse when I have a drink and have started smoking again many times in the early hours. The other times I found hard was after a cup of coffee or a decent curry or something spicy as it just seems to be more pleasurable.

You may have an advantage if you DON'T smoke when you have a few drinks, and can control the cravings better with a more cohesive mindset.

The usual things will help - an inexhaustible supply of chewing gum, containment of stress and not going to 3 day music festivals that hand out free packs of tabs! This is how I broke my 2 year hiatus a while back and it has lead to my mate now being a smoker too after never smoking until he was 36!

Good luck though and expect to put a few pounds on as your hands just have that need to do something and food is usually the replacement.

On a positive note my dad smoked 60-80 a day when I was a kid and gave up around 6 years ago and is still smoke free, so if he can kick the habit in his 50s after decades of smoking then it can be done. He doesn't drink though and that is my downfall especially regarding tabs.

Played some Madden, got out of control again, cursing at the tv and whatnot. Then got on here and signed up to this site. So all in all not too bad of a day.

Xbox or Ps3?

If it's PS3, play me and get your ass kicked.

What Madden you got dirty? I might just have to take that challenge.
