My laptop had heating issues for the past year and now it finally just died. I might be able to get it fixed but, if I'm unlucky, I might have to get a new computer.

I really don't like this. I only backed up 30GB of my music collection :(

That happened to me once with my old laptop. I took it to a computer shop, and even though the computer was basically a write off, they were still able to salvage a lot of information that was on the HDD. After that, I got an external HDD! Maybe you could see if some stuff can be saved?

I tried looking through the hard drive but it's damaged beyond repair. The computer doesn't even recognize the hard drive when I plug it in to the USB adapter.
