Ugh, yeah. Even though I have iron deficiency anemia, I sold my blood plasma for a good year, twice a week. Naturally, I didn't tell them that. I would pop iron pills, finally figured out how long before donating to take the iron so that my iron levels would be high enough to allow me to donate, and then be sick the entire rest of the day.
Once, I donated right before a performance of Footloose and ended up fainting backstage.
I knew it was bad, but I was really hard-pressed for money. Everything I was getting was going to rent, electricity, food, and paying my mom back for her initial deposit so I could get the apartment. I had to sell my plasma to make enough money to buy cigarettes. :(
And that needle is HUGE. It looks kind of like a writing quill, and is basically a metal tube with a pointy tip so it can go into your arm.
