Today, I talked to my dad who I havent seen in forever, and I learned some amazing things. Well, it turns out that according to my birth papers, I am legally a buddhist. I didn't believe him, so I went to the basement, found the copy of my birth papers, and Buddhism was put under my religion. apparently, he didn't want to choose christian like my grandmother wanted, so he chose buddhism because he wanted me to grow into the philosophies that the religion teaches. this is kind of awesome.
Also, he's kept aside a box of stuff for me since I was born. It has a bunch of punk records and hockey jerseys from his teenage years and a few photos and CDs, and a bunch of punk show posters he's always kept. He has a bunch of weird things like an old NES and a few game cartridges for said NES, and a few weird things from the hospital I was born in. But, the moost amazing thing is an expensive red stratocaster he bought when I was born, and he kept it with the intention of giving it to me wneh I was a teenager. he's kept that guitar for 15 years. it's amazing. |

Weird... I don't know if it's just folks in the U.S., or just in Louisiana or something, but I've never seen a birth certificate with religion details on it. I just looked at mine to be sure, and no, we don't give that much of a shit.

Yeah, I don't think I have a religion listed on mine either. Call me crazy but I guess I don't really think of babies as being capable of choosing a particular belief system. Assigning one to them seems as weird to me as assigning them a political party.

And I can't think of a more irrelevant thing to include as needed legal data on a birth certificate. Maybe "mother's favorite color". But not much more. |

^^I dunno, there's such a terminology as a cradle Catholic in Catholic churches - those times, if you don't signify your religion at birth, then if you die shortly after that, you end up in limbo
of course, the Pope has since "abolished" limbo |
