While I was walking down the street just a few minutes ago this neighborhood crazy guy Omar yelled, I think at me, "Hey! Hey you! Depeche Mode cut with speed!"

I have no idea what that's supposed to mean but I think it's hilarious.

I've been to Istanbul...an ex's family lives there. That's sad about the bomb. Sigh.

Meanwhile, in placid Iowa, I am about to go dig up weeds now that the scorching sun is going down. The closest our neighborhood has to Omar is a woman who is often drunk while walking her dog. She is very friendly, though. She appreciates my flowers, even when she sounds drunk. She never screams anything about Depeche Mode, alas. ;)

Esma's (our receptionist) husband is in the military. On Sunday just by a fluke coincidence he was on patrol elsewhere in the city. If it had been a normal shift he would have been on the bus that was hit. A lot of his very close friends died that day, so sad.

Well today was an interesting day. For the first time in like 100 years the Labour party decided to vote out their own leader, and our Prime Minister, because they didn't agree with his leadership anymore. Now we have our first ever female Prime Minister, and she's also a knob with a horrible strine accent.

As long as she doesn't compare to that fucking old bitch Thatcher you will be OK.

Hrm, I dunno. She's also Welsh... :D

Unfortunately for her sake I don't think she'll last long.

I read about that this afternoon lateralus and i was pretty shocked... the general feeling from over here has been that Rudd was a pretty popular PM who would have been a no brainer going into an election at the end of the year... but he has made a few gaffes of late, introducing some not so popular policies and whatnot... but still i thought the Party would stick with their leader, rather than dispose of him so quickly and abruptly...

I read Gillard's "humble" speech of acceptance as a new PM, and well, it didn't come off the page as terribly humble to me... but then again nothing a pollie says sounds terribly humble to my ears...lol...

Honestly, I think she is trying to take things back into the middle more, as that's where the perceived votes are at... it seemed to me that Rudd may have been veering further to the left...

And I really detest it when politicians start saying they're going to start taking a harder line with border policy... smallmindedness tends to come hand in hand with this world view, and the whole border security issue is such a Howard era throwback...
