Phoenix Heat Wave - 31 dead in 5 days
PHOENIX — A record heat wave has led to the deaths of 18 people in the Phoenix metropolitan area, nearly all them homeless, leaving officials scrambling to provide water and shelter to the city's transient population.

wow, i lived in a country usually stricken with drought, and lived like 3 hours from the desert and i've never heard of that before!!
is phoenix a dry place?

I was in Flagstaff 4 years ago and this was a huge problem at that time. I think a lot of it is alcohol consumption combined with prolonged exposure to the heat. There were groups on every other block passing out water bottles. Can't say I didn't take advantage of that. Technically I was homeless at the time.

from what ive read 13 have been homeless, the other 5 were elderly people with no air conditioning in their house. The body they found last night was in a house that was over 107 degrees inside. i also just read that in addition to the 18, are another 13 that have died trying to get through the desert into phx from mexico, but for some reason they dont add them in with the rest. so that would bring the total up to 31!!

man, the weather's so ****ed up.....
where i live, people are dying cause of the heavy rains and floods... and now it's incredibly hot... but we're expecting more storms... it sucks, if you check out the news, you'll see that's happening all over the globe, not just in the States
