too much YouTube IMO
For what it's worth I dislike opening a thread to find the new post is a YouTube clip. As a general rule, I come on here to read. I'll find the music on my own, thank you. If you do link to YouTube a description of exactly what it is would be nice. I'm not interested in surprises. Thanks.

It is actually cool when there's also a short description and not just a lonesome YT vid.

After a 90% disappointment rate on blind YouTube clicks nobody will ever see the vids. It's like bumping a thread just to add an emoji, an in invisible emoji even.

I answer polls and look at the results.
I actually do think it's overkill for a new vote to bump the whole thread, however. |
I'm big on letting the viewer come up with their own interpretation of the video/music without the need for me to add unnecessary commentary in order to sway their opinion of it. Interpretive art is a form of this. I still write when I have something valuable to add other than just "great song."

To everybody who will and has already responded to this thread with a blind YouTube link -
You're real clever. Good stuff! |

I think it's inherently wrong to try to push people to post in a way you want. I'm not mad about all the GIFs used in replies, though I often use them myself. Really, it comes down to the fact that nobody can tell anyone else how to post. A lot of people don't like my walls of text, or my dad jokes: doesn't mean I'm going to stop using them. As Ki says, this isn't a forum for one person and you are in point of fact the only one who seems to have a problem with this so I'd suggest maybe just sucking it up. There are lots of things here I don't like, but people aren't going to change them just because I don't like them.
|
i dont think a description is necessary but typing out the name of the video or artist-song name goes a long way in keeping posts relevant after the video is blocked/removed.

Nothing I hate more than seeing... The Pubes - Hairy Forest ...and no video to go along with it. I don't usually have YT opened in a tab so I have to go an do that just to hear a song. F*ck that. Your opinion can be valid in sorts, but it's picky as hell and really didn't deserve its own thread. People are debating though so I guess have at it. |
When I'm on my phone, YouTube videos don't show up. So I'm definitely a fan of some explanation. Also, even when I'm on a computer I don't just go around clicking every YouTube video anyone posts, I need some reason to check it out. Some kind of comment about it goes a long way toward piquing my interest.

When I'm using my tablet, instead of PC, it really helps if there wad a band/song title (or movie clip title) that I could to look it up if I wanted to. |
Half the time I visit MB from work, where YT is blocked.
I'm obviously not saying everybody should change how they post because of me (**** me), but it's the main reason I agree with OH's opinion. Quote:

Well,
What is wrong with it?
For example, I have a new video! Whats wrong if I post it here? If you dont like it, just ignore it:) |

By now i have a general idea of the music taste ppl have around here so i don't really need a description for every vid they post although sometimes seeing a short simple description on why they like it can motivate me to watch it too.
I'll tell ya what i do dislike, i dislike half assed OP for threads that only have a youtube video to explain the damn thread, that or when the OP feels lazily written and vague. |

First post in this thread is very funny.
Great thread. |

A well written OP sets the tone for the thread imo. even if ppl here derail it with their hilarious off topic banter if you write a good OP someone is bound to take it seriously and put the thread back on track. |

I'm not reading all that ****, but I'll just say that there are five million and one Youtube videos on this site, and I am not going to click on all of them. If they're part of a review, then great. If they're the entire content of a post, then **** off. I need some context about what the **** it is I'm about to click on, or I'm probably just wasting my time. It's why I always try to write something, even if only a sentence, when posting in a "What Are You Listening To?" thread.

i like how needy you guys are
"post the way i want you to post or else i won't watch your video!" is that a threat, comrade? you only deprive yourself of jwb wisdom in doing so. indeed, you are like a deluded and unhygienic hippy indulging in a hunger strike against corporate greed in a walmart parking lot, all while the rest of america's one-stop-shoppers walk by eyeing you with disgust and contempt, mistaking you for a smelly homeless person. personally, i can assess whether i want to watch any youtube video by reading the title and looking at the thumbnail. sometimes (rarely) i misjudge, but then i quickly realize my error within 15 seconds of clicking play. because i am better than you |
We're not talking about your hour-long Trump videos (I assume). I already know what those are about and whether or not I want to watch them. But when it's some random band's random song, and I have no idea what either of them are, then I skip.
