Can we please start acting like rational human beings?
Some of you know where I stand w/r/t debate. I think it's a good thing. Debating helps me to understand other people's positions, and it allows me to apply rigor to my own logic. There have been people here who I have disagreed with in the past, but I'd like to think that I, and hopefully my opponents have been able to keep an even keel, and not take things too personally.
But, you know what? This forum, being among my favorite places on the internet, has really made me sad of late. It seems like no one can discuss anything before people start throwing flaming vitriolic **** at each other. Must every topic end up with wanton ad homineming everywhere? Irrationality isn't justified because you think someone is a piece of **** for their point of view. Maybe they are, but you should articulate your logic before you make yourself look like an idiot. I mean, ****, if you want to argue, great, but try to remain civil. And if you think I'm full of **** in this post, you should tell me why, rationally. |

This wouldn't be MusicBanter if we were all civil. Humans have a natural tendency to argue with one another. History at this forum does show that the people in arguments tend to be cool with each other even after going through the challenges of an argument. I really don't think many people here actually legitimately hate each other.

So basically you made this topic because quite a few members got pissed because one specific member called for the death of a 15 year old.
I think your concerns are misplaced because **** like that isn't really all that common here because only a select few members would ever say something so vile.

Nevertheless, these huge pseudo turf wars, that accomplish nothing and change no one's mind, are really getting on my nerves.
And, again, I'm all for people debating. EDIT: Ninja'd Quote:

Oh, and I'm not taking sides. Lil's debating was pretty bad as well. |

That's not true. People can be passionate about something without logically fallacious name calling. Actually, name calling contributes nothing to that type of discussion, and gets your point of view nowhere. It just means that people are yelling at each other as loudly as they can with their ears plugged. This is pointless.
Edit: Ninja'd again. What's the point of getting in the argument then, if neither you nor your opponents have any interest in considering the other side's points? Also, two wrongs don't make a right. Also, without taking sides, "that issue was very black and white" is just an empty assertion. You still need to demonstrate why it's so black and white before any of this is worthwhile.
