basically i was referring to the fact that empathy manifested as a biological tool. and the basis for every biological tool is the ultimately the successful reproduction of a genetic lineage. i.e. having kids/pumping out humans

I guess this is the part that didn't click with me the first time. I'll blame it on my stoner brain. That is interesting though, I haven't given that notion a lot of thought until now. I'm a terrible scientist.
