I like all those cities.
I went to Blackpool once, enjoyed it but the weather was shit (expected really), basically spent the entire weekend smoking weed with some lads I met from Boro and getting pissed. Too young to get served here (was about 15) so was loving it up there. Didn't see much of the town or surrounding areas just stuck to the promenade. I didn't even go on the Pleasure Beach :o: |
I think that's Blackpool's problem now that it's become so run down; aside from when they were in the premier league (apparently - I'm not hugely into football) it's the sort of place that people visit but wouldn't bother returning to considering what a ballache it is getting there.
You did right to stick to the prom, google pics of the town centre if you're curious but it's generally not a pretty sight and it doesn't feel any better in the flesh. Some parts of the northern quarter are just as rundown but you can't help but feel the creativity and life in the air, it's on a whole different planet. |

Liverpool isn't as picturesque as the post on the previous page but it's not far behind, I'll take this opportunity to document how beautiful it can look:
Firstly, the skyline/waterfront: http://www.davidlongstaffe.com/imgs/..._20175167.jpeg Our two cathedrals.. Anglican: http://i1.liverpoolecho.co.uk/incomi...15/2674678.jpg And Metropolitan: http://static.raphael-seitz.de/tl_fi...erpool_001.jpg Some of my favourite streets and areas from the city centre.. Victoria Street http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi..._Liverpool.jpg William Brown Street http://www.liverpoolpictorial.co.uk/...s/DSC_3390.jpg Castle Street (sorry about the size of this one, there aren't very many good pictures on Google and this was the only one which showed it properly) http://www.speel.me.uk/sculptplaces/...tlestview1.jpg Bold Street with St Lukes church at the top (known locally as the bombed out church, as it was bombed during the war and has no roof, but is still used for events such as concerts and outdoor cinema screenings and such) https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2876/9...8053e2f5_b.jpg Hope Street (possibly my favourite street in the city, sadly there are no pictures on the internet which do it justice and this is the best i could find, but it has a cathedral at either end and the architecture is lovely) https://c1.staticflickr.com/7/6234/6...71cc62b4_b.jpg St John's Gardens http://www.liverpoolexpress.co.uk/wp...ns-770x390.jpg Dale Street http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6069/...496629bbee.jpg And I'll stop posting now, i think i've done enough haha! I could go on though, and this is just the city centre, there's loads of amazing stuff out in the suburbs too. Apologies for the inconsistent sizing, i'm no good at this sort of stuff.. |
^ Yeah it's good. That's why I said ours is probably only challenged by Liverpool's. If you want more Liverpool pics, go on Skyscrapercity, excellent website for this sort of thing.
Ours - http://www.baddeley.be/blog/wp-conte..._baddeley2.jpg Also I meant to say, when you said the Bullring is hideous, I assume you meant the Selfridges store? I love it tbh. Iconic building, can show a picture to any Brit and they will know what it is and where it is. But I can understand why people don't like it. Looks like a giant fly's eye. |
USA Positive
Physically, this country is amazing. It's enormous and has a huge variety in terms of climate and geography—mountains, deserts, plains, tundra, tropical islands, you name it. We're a wealthy technological leader. We've produced some great music and cinema which has influence people around the globe. Not too shabby in the literature and visual art departments either. USA Negative Stolen land. History of slavery, genocide and other related awful shit. Wasteful, entitled, insular, money-driven culture that cares far too much about Jesus and guns. Growing divide between the rich and the poor. |
