You should check out The Chasm. On their later albums they used a lot less vocals, with their last one, Farseeing the Paranormal Abysm, having four out of the eight songs entirely instrumental. Even when used they're used sparingly and relatively low in the mix.

And this would be one of the songs with vocals. They're still growls, but they're not nearly as intrusive or extreme as most death metal.
