Since we're talking about handheld games, I had this bad boy back in the day:

^ I had a frogger one. :)

It was sorta like owning a Jaguar when everybody had a snes, sure your console was more unique but there were barely any games for it. |

My first radio. I'd cruise the neighborhood blasting Super CFL and WLS.
http://jsf1.homestead.com/1970s_Road...ox_650X488.jpg As for handheld games, this was always my goto: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg ...I've lost my train of thought again... |

In fourth or fifth grade I used to have a friend who had a portable CD player and we would listen to albums I would bring while we rode the bus to and from school. I supplanted the headphone splitter, my headphones, and the CDs. After a couple of months of doing this I had a CD wallet filled with about 40-50 CDs. One day my friend didn't come on the bus so I didn't end up listening to any music and just put my backpack under my seat as usual. When I got home I wanted to listen to something on my little boombox and I reached into my bag to find nothing there. It had fallen out of the bag or some dirty little cunt (well, probably a rather large cunt to me at the time) of a high schooler had lifted it and were listening to all of my dad rock staples.
My dad was fucking livid, especially since he didn't know that I was borrowing his CDs. Probably lost about 400-600 dollars in CDs that he still hasn't replaced. At least he's actually buying better CDs in the meantime. |

This was my first ever video game so to speak.
It was a calculator with a game called digi invaders on it. Basically you controlled the number on the left and you would scroll from 0 to 9 by pressing the . key. Then when that number matched one advancing on the right you pressed 0 to eliminate it. The little n's were like a bonus and appeared between 9 and 0 and would make a satisfying 'Pewwwwwww' noise when you got them. If the numbers advancing reached your 3 lines you lost a life. I spent hours playing this. |
My first video game system was an NES, then I got an SNES later on. The first game I ever played:
http://www.mariowiki.com/images/5/55/MarioBrosAC.png It was on the copy of Mario Bros that came with that other Mario game, and I played this instead of the actual game for a little while. |
Some more handhelds:
I rocked this one: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...CL._AA280_.jpg Who could forget "Ball catch!". Yeah! Gimme sum a that! http://cdn3.image-tmart.com/prodimgs...oy_320x320.jpg |

Anyone remember when the most important car audio accessory was one of these?
http://www.nps.gov/museum/exhibits/g...matchbook1.jpg |
Yes. As 8-Tracks wore out, that would push the magnetic tape into the metal tabs for better clarity.

Oh you miniature plastic bagatelle games, how I seemed to get you every single Christmas and birthday despite never asking for you once. |

Another annoying thing about 8 tracks was how songs would get split up between tracks. "I've been dazed and confused for so long...... "CLICK" ...... it's not true." |

The first game i remember playing from the Nes was Contra. http://img1.game-oldies.com/sites/de...contra-usa.png One of the best co op games ever made, you could even troll friends by dying and stealing their lives and stealing the 'S' when you clearly had it already :p: |
Quote:
I used to make 8-Track mix tapes, and would try to time the songs so that didn't happen. |

Anyone ever get into the extremely short-lived Elcasete?

My Dad had one of these in one of his cars. I think it was his GTO. I barely remember it, but I do remember that it skipped a lot. http://wac.450f.edgecastcdn.net/8045...fi-300x203.jpg |

Not tech at all, but **** it. I used to love this boardgame. The so-cool thing about it was that the big vampire bat piece was hollow, so when you as Dracula got a victim, you placed this bat over their piece and they were then one of your slaves. Also had a cool vampire mask if I remember.
http://www.wonderlandblog.com/.a/6a0...b148970b-500wi Then there was this: Ah, crap! Can't find a picture. But basically it was a board game based on Dr Who, the coolest thing about which was that the daleks moved on an inside track and you turned a sort of knob on the board to advance them along. Loved that game. And more semi-recently, the coolest game ever! http://fairnie.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/hype.jpg Basically, you put together a band, cut singles and watched them go up the charts, toured and then cut an album and did bigger gigs as you got more popular. Superb. Got thrown out accidentally during the construction of the extension in 2012. :( |
Well if we're going that route....
http://childrenstoy.biz/wp-content/u...logs-1920s.jpg https://nerdclass.files.wordpress.co.../11/19usd7.jpg And then a few years later cooler things came down the pike. https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/i...TQAi_ifnLZl_eS |

I used to get all my sisters dolls and hold summery executions on the top floor window ledge.

I once convinced my younger sister to do a somersault off of a tall chest of drawers onto a mattress. She knocked the wind out of herself so bad I thought she was going to die.
During my last visit back east we were partying and the story came up. We both nearly pissed ourselves laughing about it. My older sister was mad at me once and waited all day until we were sliding the dining table back together and she slammed it while my finger was between sections. It was a two way street at my house when I was young. |

The flaw in your logic is that Elcaset (late 1970's) post dates open reel recorders by DECADES Ampex - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

Maybe that's when you bought yours but high-end open real recorders, especially Ampex, were available as early as the 50's. Elcaset was available in 1977. |
I have to say, I was pretty much always my sister's protector. Well, she was the baby.
My brothers now, on the other hand... |
