Yes, long-distance bus rides are the ****ing worst. Longest I've done is 28 hours and I'm not looking to top that.

From northern Europe, esp in the winter months, there are various travel companies that promise to get you down to the warmth of the Med by non-stop bus. It's a cheap and appealing notion when you're fed up with the cold weather, so my friend paid for a window seat on one such bus. He was feeling quite content with his escape until, somewhere in the Alps, the guy sitting next to him nodded up the aisle of the bus and told my friend, "The driver. He sleep." __________________________________________________ ____________ @ Smoke and Mirrors: Pity you never made it to Venice. That to me is the prettiest, most wonderful city I've ever seen. When you see it for the first time, you are faced with this conundrum: how can you possibly have a huge city without a single road in it? Here are some of the picturesque solutions:-

i travel a lot between california and wyoming, usually by driving through nevada, utah, and idaho. aside from that i've been to pa once when i was 12 and the only thing i remember is that i packed too much denim for that amount of humidity and when i flew into newark i thought it smelled bad. still haven't been to the pacific northwest, and haven't gone more than a couple hundred miles out of the bay area in any direction. oh i went to arizona and ate mushrooms in the grand canyon once lol.

Pretty much sums it up, but more accurately would be a duffel bag and a guitar case. I spent the next two weeks on Santa Monica beach playing tunes for change so I could eat. Then I joined the service. I'd do it all again too.

.... I did a lot of travelling over the last two years. Took nine weeks off and went to Europe for a solo trip. I hit the the UK, Ireland, Norway, Belgium, Netherlands, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Iceland. Last year I drove across the country by myself. Took the southern route. Took me six days. Had a blast. Lived in California for three months and drove up to Canada to camp for ten days by myself and then d rove back to NJ through Canada up to the great lakes where I dipped back in and stopped in Chicago. Some people have issues going to the movies by themselves. I have traveled half the earth by myself. |
