but it`s not an open forum, thats the point.

It`s still called Musicbanter , people will still come here to talk about music. Why would anyone search out a music forum to talk about sci fi ?

I just don`t see where this influx of non music fans will come from. Whats wrong with giving people a little more incentive to keep them here?

well, if theres non-music forums, then people will come here to talk about non-music (so to speak)... this is how we attract non-music people... i really dont know what should happen with this....

Why though ?

I`ve visited Dr Who forums , Formula one forums , Football forums , Rugby forums in my time.

All these places had non topic forums and not ONE of them overshadowed what the main forum was about. People will not join just to only post in some sub-forum , it`s just a little incentive to keep people posting here when they may not want to discuss music.
Why is everybody scared of letting people have fun & get to know each other here. I just don`t get it.

Sub forums in the lounge is probably the best idea if that is the route the admins decide to take, i agree that it will be more organized as well as an incentive for people to stay and get to know each other better. I dont think we need too many because it will inevitably attract differant types of people, the music forum is already so many differant genres that its split the members into enough differant groups as it is.

i completely disagree...music is the primary reason people come here and there is a very small percentage of newbies that just wanna talk, unrelated to music, 95% of the people that come here acctualy talk about music, wheather it's the chewed up topics such as bloc party and the bravery or suggesting new bands.....the longe is (ab)used primarely by the older members....

yes at first as new members people come to talk about music. but as they enter more and become more seasoned they make freindships thus conversation is at an optimum- it gets to the point where they come to music banter just to talk to their "freinds". now i have no problem with this- as long as it is in the lounge- which quite frankly isnt the case a lot of the time. some of us do actually come here with the sole purpose of talking about music y'know.

Sure the old arguments happen all over again, but not always, and alot of the times the same discussion that happend 6 months ago and is old news to us is new to them so what ends up happening most of the time is these newbs end up getting flamed for starting a new thread on an old subject (old to us, not to them) so alot of ppl just stick to the lounge now where basically anything goes and you dont have to worry about ppl complaining about why such and such band is mentioned in a certain forum. Then again, maybe music is getting stale and were all itching for something new to come out so we can all talk about how much we hate or like this "new" band. Either way, i dont see the lounge as a bad thing, it definetly takes away from the music portion of the site, but I have to agree with the way Urban explains it.
i completely agree...right now i'm waiting for something new to come my way...but stu has said that the music discussion has been weak lately and i disagree....he hasn't been here for a couple of days if not weeks ( at least not so i would notice=new suggestions ) and still new people came ( well in the indie forum , that's my main hanging place ) and suggested new bands i've never heard of...in my opinion the forum can never die because there is always one or two new people who know their shit....

in my opinion its weak. (must i ****ing state whatever i say is my opinion) i may not have been posting much lately but that doesnt mean i havent ben looking at whats happening. if i have nothing relevant to say i wont post anything- hence the fact i havent been on lately. you may well find it all interesting. doesnt mean i have to.

i don't see why you're dragging this up now, it's always been this way hasn't it?....i mean, when i joined a couple of months ago i had so many things/bands i wanted to disscus, but for you they were probobly all disscused over and over again....and maybe you found my input very boring....
in any case, the bands that you listen to are so rare and oscure that i my opinion you really only have 2 people who will ingage you in an interesting and stimulating conversation : hookers and sweet jane....and on a very rare occasion someone else ( like me...clor sounds promising btw, i'm eagerly waiting for the album )
as for me, unlike you i don't really spend that much time searching for new music and i've already disscused most of the stuff i listened to, so at this point my posts serve only for the purpose of mingling with people...and i don't think it's a bad thing, if the topic is interesting ( which cannot be said for most of the topics in the lounge...edge-you're running out of inspiration! )
