Most of the threads that go way off topic (i'm talking 1, 2 pages full of spam) I just close anyway. Like that Green Day thread. Good job btw for those who predicted what would happen to that one.

You can't really convince people to start caring about new music. You just gotta hope the loyal regulars will care, and most likely they will. There's a handful of members here I specifically look for their posts and suggestions, I'm sure everyone does that.

The lounge is fine, although I do remember when I first joined, it wasn't so active, and the topics were a little bit more 'meaningful'. But that's not the point of the lounge anyway.

And I hope more members will be encouraged to stick around. Like Urb said, the Lounge does a good job of that, but sometimes if you get caught in a really interesting/compelling music conversation, you'll be more inclined to come back.
And we don't need more non-music forums. I think the Lounge covers all that well.

Bottom line: let's be happy.

and that will happen, i dont think we could really stop it completely, but if we all tried to avoid doing it ourselves and let ppl know that they are getting off topic before its 3 pages long i think it will help minimize it a great deal, if that particular member continues to stay off topic then one of the mods can step in.

I think the problem with the lounge is that it`s too small to cover everything else other than music.

If I was to for example start a thread on some book or film chances are after a couple of days it`ll get buried under hundreds of attention whoring posts. Then if anybody new comes along who has an opinion on it , they won`t see it.

If the non music side of the forum was more cohesive topics on certain subjects would be easier to find & discuss. Have a sports forum , have a tv , film & books forum , have a news forum , have an unmoderated forum for all the attention whoring posts where people can mess around & get to know one another without fear of moderators telling them to stay on topic.

I visit the Doctor Who forums at Outpost Gallifrey on a regular basis , they have 11 forums on the subject of Doctor Who & 6 forums that are not , non of the other 6 forums detract from the other 11. That forum has only been going around 3 years longer than this one , at this moment in time there are approx 350 active members posting.... Right this minute.

Now you can`t honestly tell me that music is less popular than Doctor Who.

See , it`s all about keeping people there & making a community spirit when they don`t want to talk about the main subject.

You know what? I think it'd be really cool to have some of those forums as subsections to the Lounge. That would be really neat I think. I'm not sure if it's all that necessary though.

hmm, i kinda like the sound of that but my only concern would be if we created a forum for all other forms of entertainment, then this wouldnt be considered a music forum anymore would it? The way i see it right now is theres a music forum.....and then the lounge. If we had a sports forum/tv forum/book forum/news forum/film forum/etc. then music banter would be pretty much an open invitation for anyone whether they have interest in music or not. I like the current structure becaues the majority of members are here for the music even if they post alot in the lounge, its the music aspect of the site that got them here.

But wouldn`t say 1000 people posting a couple of times in the music forums on a regular basis be better than say 50 people posting there all the time?

could, but id probably rather talk to the same 50 music geeks everyday then 1000 jocks/sci-fi nerds and whatever else type of ppl an open forum would attract.
