A hot dog is a hot dog. Duh. Just like a hamburger is a hamburger. They both exist in and of themselves. Iconic. Timeless.
The big debate comes when you bring subs, grinders, and hoagies into the mix.

Gyro sandwiches use one piece of pita but they're still considered sandwiches.

I will admit that there are reasons why someone would call it a sandwich, but i just don't see it. Also, the toppings. As far as I know, ketchup, sauerkraut, and relish don't seem to be traditional toppings for a sandwich. I could be wrong.

Speaking of grinders....
When I lived back east this place was a 5 minute walk around the corner from us. So good. Delivery and takeout menu for pizza, subs, salads, and slices - Chris' Famous Pizza
