Probably the time I got caught stealing gum from the supermarket. After my mom lectured me and explained to the cops (there were cops) that I was just a kid (I was like 5) we got in the car. She turned on the radio and I **** you not "Been Caught Stealing" by Jane's Addiction came on instantly.
Also remember getting glasses for the first time. And eating starbursts/getting life lessons from my godmother at a coffee shop.

I was seven and I thought my dad was watching a film that moved him so much that he decided that I wasn't going to school that day.

One of my earliest memories is asking my mother how old I was and her saying, "Three and a quarter". At that age I had no idea what "a quarter" meant so I immediately had a mental image of myself flipping a twenty-five cent coin.

I'm 21 right now and I think my earliest lasting memory is my parents bringing home our second dog when I was two years old, vague visual recollections of crawling into its kennel and hanging out with him. I have vague memories of my third Christmas, at least of the decorations around the house. I have a memory of scraping my knee hiking at the age of 4. And of course a whole bunch of memories from early elementary school and beyond.

My earliest memory is something I only realized recently I had, but when I did I felt it with full force.
I was 4 or so, it was summer. We were living in the country, my mother was washing dishes or doing something in the kitchen, she was listening to "Paint it black" by the Rolling Stones, on vinyl. I remember sitting there, listening to words I couldn't understand back then, looking at the light coming through the windows ... and that's it. It really came back to me only after she died, and now I cherish it like no other memory. |
