You must be super sad then, considering I disappeared for a minute.

This morning I had fair trade organic Kenyan coffee from a local roastery back home in Kentucky. It was super citrus-y, and with lots of floral notes. The room pretty much smelled like flowers when I popped the bag open. Also for breakfast was a super tasty PB&J made with average whole grain bread, crappy peanut butter, but AMAZING Amish-made apple butter. Best apple butter on earth.

I'm hardly a saint, but that's besides the point. I don't have any current plans to return to Nicaragua, but I am working toward a degree in education- kinda thinking about looking into working in inner city schools. There's one in downtown Minneapolis that uses a sliding scale for tuition so virtually anyone can go there. That's like a dream for me. I want to make life better for the people on this crappy planet, however I can, and that seems like a good way to do it. But first I gotta make money to go to school. Right now I'm teaching at a preschool, kissing my fiance a lot, and living life. I guess we'll see.

Also, I seem to remember it was a Christian ministry thing. What denomination? I don't have much respect for organized religion in general, but some aspects of it I support, and i'd like to know which denominations to give actual credit to. Whether or not they're pushing Bibles on people, so long as they're feeding them and giving them medical care then a little indoctrination is a small price to pay... assuming they don't go nuttso with it of course. I just hope it's not one of those, "Hey, here's a Bible. We'd give you food, but the Word of the Lord with fill your belly far better than any petty, mortal food." I don't see you as one of those fanatical *******s, but atheist mistrust runs deep.

To be honest, I am not in any way a fundamentalist idiot, but I've hung out with a lot of them, and I think they're crazy, for the most part. Many of them are incredibly loving individuals, and many of them are truly making this place a little more beautiful, but some of their views are pretty frustrating to me. As for who I worked with, it's an organization called Feed the Hungry, and I worked personally with the directors of the Nicaragua branch. It's a great organization, and is doing a lot of good. That said, they are quite Evangelical, and that got a little old sometimes, but I still appreciate their work.

I actually thought about joining the Peace Corps at one time, mostly as a selfish way to escape real life TBH, but quickly abandoned the idea when I found out that it was really more about dropping pretty much one single guy in the middle of third world hell, competent in languages and whatever form of specialized learning would be most helpful to the natives. Definitely sounded way above my pay grade, but if someone who I'm pretty sure had either just graduated high school or was somewhere in the middle of college can do it, then I'd be interested in toying with maybe doing so. Assuming of course that the church was willing to deal with atheists who just wanted to help/get native dope without having to convert.

I have mixed feelings about the Peace Corps, but I think that they're ultimately doing more good than bad, so I like them for the most part. I met some Peace Corps kids a couple of times, living near the village that I had the most relationships with. They were good people.
Good news, though! Peace Corps is a secular organization, and though they often work with churches so as to have a community partnership, atheists are more than welcome. I say go for it.

Not saying I'm some good Samaritan, but I'm a self-absorbed, spoiled Western kid in need of seeing the real world outside of the American bubble. A little cavalier adventurism is inescapable I imagine.

Life is an adventure, every bit of it. Might as well enjoy the adventure while doing some good.

Hey, anyone who knows me in real life knows that I push the boundaries in my sense of humor, so that's not too much of a problem. Thanks for accepting me, despite the fact that I'm a weirdo religious nutjob.
