Arena is one of my favourite episodes, much better than that silly Sulu episode put above

Just to expand this a little, I'm sure none of you will be surprised to learn that this is going to be the Metal Month of sci-fi, and I have lots of ideas already for it --- I've filled three pages of my notebook at this point. However it's definitely open to member participation, and anyone who wants to contribute -- write about your favourite episode, why you think Kirk is better than Picard, a detailed history of the Gorn (just kidding! No. Really.) or a piece about the Cardassians' place in DS9, hell, even why you hate Star Trek, all are welcome. Just drop me a PM or post here and I'll try to work it in.
Should be fun. I hope.

Two great episodes there! Just write me forty thousand words on each and we're fine.
Seriously, let me know what you want to do. I'm open to any suggestions. Remember though that it's not only classic Trek that will be featured, so you can do anything on any episode(s) of any of the series.

Picked four from each series as my favorite. Hard to hold myself back on this one. Huge Trek nerd.
"The City on the Edge of Forever" (TOS) - the best episode of TOS and one of the best episodes of the franchise, period. "The Trouble with Tribbles" (TOS) - like I need to even explain this one! "Mirror, Mirror" (TOS) - Spock with a goatee! SPOCK WITH A GOATEE! "Space Seed" (TOS) - The episode that spawned the best Trek film of all time, Wrath of Khan, is almost as good as its sequel. "The Best Of Both Worlds (Part 1)" (TNG) - The definitive TNG episode. Trek's first cliffhanger. Riker debating command. The Borg. "Darmok" (TNG) - Probably the most famous TNG episode? At least it's the one that's on reruns all the time. "The Inner Light" (TNG) - this episode was a trip the first time I saw it, and I just wish that serialization had been established enough in the 90s so we could reference it more than Picard just playing the flute every now and then. "Chain of Command (Part 2)" (TNG) - THERE! ARE! FOUR! LIGHTS! "The Visitor" (DS9) - this one makes me cry like a baby every time. "Duet" (DS9) - the first glimpse of the greatness that would be DS9, a little heavy-handed but a couple knockout performances bring this one home. "Far Beyond the Stars" (DS9) - "That future – I created it, and it's real! Don't you understand? It is real. I created it. And it's real! It's REAL!" "In the Pale Moonlight" (DS9) - the franchise's darkest hour is DS9's best. It's a moral doozy and in the end, Sisko is the sexiest man alive. "Meld" (VOY) - Tuvok is my favorite Vulcan besides Spock, and this episode's guest star is a creepy Brad Dourif. I'll take seven. "Before and After" (VOY) - I always liked Kes more than most people, and this was probably her best episode. Plus, it shows us the Year of Hell we never got (I'm not counting "Year of Hell" because it SPOILER hits the damn reset button at the end). "Scorpion (Part 1)" (VOY) - What the show should have been in the first place - stressful, high stakes sci-fi adventure, all alone. Probably the clearest indicator of VOY being a precursor to the reimagined Battlestar Galactica. Borg! Species 8472! Explosions! Both parts of this are just fun, but part 1 is probably more significant. "Someone to Watch Over Me" (VOY) - I didn't like VOY's overall arc that much, so I treasured the episodes I got to spend just hanging out with the characters. This is one of those hangout episodes. But I love it. |

Those are all stellar (pun intended) episodes right there. I'm not so sure about Voyager as I really didn't like it (shut up Batty) but I'm glad to see NOT ONE SINGLE ENTERPRISE EPISODE!!!
Have to get you to write something for Star Trek Month if you're up for it!

I'd love to write something! I am still unemployed so I've got nothing but time. This is actually good timing because I'm probably going to be rewatching TOS soon (and possibly taking a crack at The Animated Series, since it's canon). |
